Default Over Heating

Hey Everyone,

Just doing a little research for a friend. Has a my99 WRX with powerfc. He doesnt drive it much and at some point he reckons his battery went completely flat ( im assuming it was flat for an extended period of time ) .

So anyway, new battery, thing wouldnt start. he got the basic map running ( i have no idea where he got this 'basic map' ) but anytime he tries to drive it anywhere it overheats?

Im not even sure if this is related to the ECU or possible cooling system problem.

If i reset the powerfc to factory settings and run through the idle learn procedure, i know this isnt ideal but if the ECU is the cause would this rectify it until it can be taken to a tuner.

other than that does anyone have an old my99 ecu laying around i could switch out to test?

If yas dont think its the ecu any ideas what would be a good place to start checking bearing in mind the car had been sitting formant for awhile.

any ideas/thoughts welcome.

thanks in advance
Chris

over heating is a mechanical/cooling system issue.

nothing to do with ecu unless its not turning the fans on.

Check the thermostat isn't stuck.
Flush and refill the cooling system.
Pressure test cooling system.

Yes, extreme amounts of timing will make your car run hotter. 99.9% sure this isn't the problem.
