My girlfriend is selling her 05 Impreza GX on carsales. Its been on there a day, and already she is getting all the spam messages and crap.

The whole "I am out of town, I would like to pay via paypal and have it picked up" blah blah blah

I would like to get back at these idiots some how... any ideas?

I was thinking of screwing with them a little bit...

Tell every one of them that you require a deposit to secure the car, start at $500.00

They'd just try and pay via paypal from a stolen card, causing your paypal to be frozen until its resolved - more stress than its worth.

I had the same thing when I was looking at selling the XR, one reckoned they wanted to buy it for the brother in law but because they worked away they'd just take it on face value that the car was in good nic and pay via paypal. Reported it to scamwatch.gov.au, but never heard anything.

the scams are definately getting worse, it's a shame because i've alway s had great success using carsales but these dickheads really put you off, when i sold my last car i was receiving at least 2-3 msgs a day with crap like "i'll buy your car, reply to this email address" a couple of them even told me they would give me $1000-$2000 more than i had it advertised for, i never replied to them but fu#k they were very annoying , i was relieved when it finally did sell
