News flash... Vehicle registration fees do not pay for road construction. Roads are paid for by the broader taxes collected by state and federal governments. Your argument is negated.

Secondly would you rather be stuck in a traffic jam with 100 cars where you can't move, or would you rather on a road with 100 bikes where you can overtake them.

I don't get stuck in traffic jams, I live in a sleepy town in the middle of nowhere.

Nope, not a cyclist at all (too many fuckwits on the road behind 4 wheels to even consider it), I'm not just a fan of arrogant attitudes on our roads towards other users whether that be 2, 4 or 18 wheels.

Look I agree with you, I think some of my animosity towards cyclists is in part because as I think I've mentioned before, I live where the Tour Down Under passes through. And because of that, there is a large contingency of lycra clad cyclists that sit in packs of ten or so that take up entire lanes for months before and after the Tour. I'm not talking about teams either, just average people that think they're in the race. And these groups seem to think it's okay to do this, and will chastise any driver that tries to overtake them in 80-90kmh zones.

So tell me who's the arrogant ones here?

I don't really care whether people think my arguments are invalid, or whether my registration goes towards the road systems, the fact that I pay registration is stating that I'm allowed to use my car on the road, or I'd be fined, simple as that. If cyclists were to pay a registration fee to be on the roads, like any other person in a car, a motorbike, a scooter, etc etc, then they're entirely justified to be there.

/end rant. Time to go pay rego

This debate will never find a resolution.

Cyclists want to ride without fear of being wiped out/killed, and have a level of protection on the road.

Motorists want to be able to use the road without the hindrance of cyclists slowing them down as they are forced to negotiate a way around them.

Christ ... This shit again.

Cyclist are like Adam Goodes - the protected species view. They want to eat their cake and have it as well.

Basic physics and risk management suggests that most cyclists would do everything to protect themselves but they don't. Indicate, use cycle paths when they're availed, don't act like a vehicle one second and a pedestrian the next.

Before the angst gets thrown my way ... I paid my way through some of my university years being a cycle courier.
