rim size on gc8

whats the offset and stud pattern (5x100 or 5 x114.3) for a 99 model wrx?

does anyone know if 18x7.5, 5x100 offset +40 rims will fit on my99?
and will 225/35/18 tyres fit on these rims?

thanks guys

5 x 100 is the correct stud pattern, +40 offset should fit, although it might stick out a fair bit, creating clearance problems with the guard when you're turning, especially if your car is lowered.

From memory, stock 16x7 rims have a +53 offset, most aftermarket 17x7 rims for a GC8 are +48 offset. Given that, I have a hunch +40 might stick out quite a bit! Maybe it's time for a 22B widebody kit conversion :P

225/35-18 is the correct size for a 18x7.5 wheel, but make sure the load rating on the tyre is at least 87V as required for a GC8 or you might risk insurance dramas.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since ADR's for WA say that you can't have a rim wider than 7" wide unless it came that wide from the factory, anything over the 7" wide would have insurance issues since it breaches ADR's? (...if push came to shove and they did a full inspection of your car after it was written off, for example)

"In any event, rim width shall not exceed 177.8 mm (7") unless specified by the manufacturer as standard equipment for the vehicle in question. No increase in rim width is permitted for vehicles fitted with original equipment rims in excess of 177.8 mm (7") width."

What about tyre size for 17" rims?

Also, where can I find Advan Kreuzer X or Advan Kreuzer V 17x7.5 rims?

well my 17x7's take 215/45R17. But thats for a 95 wrx

17x7s on GC8s ideally should use 215/40-17 tyres, but tyres in that size with load rating 87V or higher are quite rare.

fmx rider I think you are quite right.

The 45's adjust speed readings by about 3% which means if your speedo says 60km/h you're actually doing ~62km/h

Yeah speed readings don't differ much going from 215/40 to a 215/45. However, there are noticeable trade-offs in terms of handling and acceleration. I had 215/40 tyres, and subsequently went to 215/45 tyres. I found more sidewall flex on the 45 profile tyres and a slight drop in acceleration, probably due to a larger diameter, increased tyre weight, or both. That said however, it probably is neglible in most applications.

To the best of my knowledge, tyres in 215/40-17 that do meet the load requirements of a GC8 include Falken GRB FK451 and Continental ContiSportContact (sic?).

isnt the smaller the offset, the more they stick out? Ie +40 would fit quite easily, whereas -12 is a "belongs on a widebody celsior" offset?

[BANNED] 11-10-2005 01:18 PM

Other way round Josh.

I think anyways!

The newer STis run a big offset (around 40 I think) so the rim clears the Brembos. My GTR however ran an offset of something like 20-22.
