Default Dash Lights: A/c dials don't light up

hello, i did search but i may not have searched hard enough....

1st thing: car = 1997 WRX.

as per title; my A/c dials don't light up. the A/c button does when on but the dials themselves don't? actually.... are they even suppose to light up??

i dont really mind as can generally make out where i want it to be, it just sucks not being lit up all pretty. all other dash lights work fine, stereo, interior light etc. i tried pulling the A/c control out but because of the cables/wires it wouldn't come out far enough to look behind and i didn't want to pull to hard as things break if you do!! is there a globe for these that can be replaced? i checked the wiring loom coming from there but it all seemed ok and nothing loose/broken/disconnected

any help appreciated, if not i'll just continue to guess where the cold/hot air blows from

Is it the early or late dash?
Is your A/C button round or rectangle? Round = early
I can check tonight but i am pretty sure on the late dash it has 2 globes in behind it to light it up, so make sure that the connector hasnt come loose. Old dash, I cant remember as I threw that out. Did it just stop working one day or did one side go dull then the rest went?
I just fixed the light in my A/C button. Turned out to be a globe but I broke the switch trying to get it out. $65 later and a 2 week wait now the light works.

a/c button is rectangle, light up green... and they just stopped working one day i think... hasn't been working for a while so can't remember?? i was playing with the stereo today so i thought id look into the lights..

cheers guys

ps: just had another look but i can't see or feel where the globes may go? does that section of the dash actually come out anymore or do you have to take more of the dash apart to get to it properly? if it's too hard i'll just leave it, as i said it's not hard to work out what the dials are set on

sorry for all the questions

Ok heres the pics

Front should look like this

Remove the 4 screws and you should be able to wiggle it down and tilt it forward like this

Straight up from where my thumb is you will see 2 blue wires. Twist the end of this and thats your first globe. Follow that around to the other side and you will find the other.

Hope that helps.
