What boost gauge should i get?

What brand would you recommend for a boost gauge. i want something that is going to read accurately yet not be too expensive at the same time. Thanks for your help

Do you have a boost controller? If not, get a GReddy Profec B Spec II. Good EBC and Its got a real time digital boost gauge that just reads pressure off a vacume line from your intake manifold. Would be the same accuracy as a mechanical boost gauge but can also control boost, 2 in 1.

If you want any more accurate, get a Defi or an Apexi EL2 boost gauge, they are electronic but cost.

+1 for defi

scoobygez 12-08-2008 10:41 PM

i have the greddy on scooby and it works fine :)

although defi is very good as you can go thru it and check what you were boosting at when it peaked etc etc

Who has time to look at gauges when you're on noise? Gotta look out for police, speed cameras, cars, motorbikes, pedestrians and hoon catchers.

defi +1

if you dont wana spend a fortune...i had a Saber in my last car and one in the post for the new car :)

NVRENUF 13-08-2008 09:02 PM

well id recomend defi , if you dont want to spend that much get a mechanical apexi guage cheaper and still good guage but if you can get electronic with sender unit apexi and defi both make them

Mister Two 13-08-2008 10:36 PM

Defi do make a electronic gauge that doesnt require spending hundreds on a controller. only thing is its only available in 52mm size, but at least is only like $220.

This is my defi set up in mine and of course with the defi 2 controler you can replay it all so you can see how things have been preforming or not as the case maybe.

Defi Link BF Boost Gauge is the way to go...!

NVRENUF 14-08-2008 07:20 AM

I do love my defi guages. i went the 3 in the dash hood thing like the photo above. but i went white dials though black face looks so good... :)

Cooper89 14-08-2008 08:44 AM

+1 for Defi

jEstEr? 14-08-2008 09:17 AM

3 defi guages and controller is almost halfway to a motec or autronic

saturation 14-08-2008 09:34 AM

nah theyre about 700-800 for 3 and a controller, sometimes less.

But i agree cheaper options out there.

Mister Two 14-08-2008 09:36 AM

Maybe you should have a look at a SubDataScan. Little LCD screen thingy that connects to the OEM ECU via the Selectmonitor Port. Can display up to 8 sensor outputs at once. Or 4 sensors with peak hold. And it has USB output too so you can use a laptop to do logging. Only $300 too.

Functionality is great, shame it looks like a dogs breakfast.

Having 4 defi gauges myself, they are really there for show. You will never see a problem 'occuring', they will just tell you that it just happened.

The only cool thing is to recall your max boost, but that gets old after a while.

Your's would just about be maxed at 2 Bar wouldn't it? How does that EVER get old? :D

They go further than 2 bar :D

Defi is the best to blend in with stock gauges.
Green for the wrx like mine, or red for the sti, like previous post.
They have the same background, dials, indicators and surounds, soooo...they look the goods.
They also are one of the most responsive and accurate on the market, "apparentley".
The playback, max and alarm functions make them a lot more useful than just a bit of bling in the cockpit too.

Not to mention the time they helped me, when i blew up my engine, there was a loud BANG, a SPRAY of oil AND a noticable lack of power :D ...my oil light went into alarm...and a thought to my self... shit  something must be wrong, phew for the defi's ;)

but...they are a little pricey.

I went with;

Boost: nice to know what the turbo is doing.
Oil Temp: much beter way to moniter engine temp than reading the water temp.
Oil Pressure: beter to see than a little red light that lets you know you dont have any oil at all.
