de-badging & Wing

Hey all,

In a bit of a predicament as I want to remove the spoiler and badges off my RX, but I heard that if you de-wing the car you need to spray to whole boot, to cover the holes which I'm guessing is expensive?? Would it be better to get a GX boot and use that (if it fits) or are there other ways?

Cheers.

If you can get a GX boot cheap then do that. You need to check if you have a brake light in your back window. If not you need to put one in or you run the risk of a sticker.

LOL that would only work if you had a black car even then it would look shit.
But nice try.

obviously you need to open your eyes and have a look at 1/2 the de winged cars kicking round ;)

I say grommets and then rubber paint to match car :p

ImPreSiV 19-08-2008 06:04 PM

cost me $500 to get the holes welded up and the boot lid resprayed. And that was in a different colour to my car, matching it was a bit more.. I ran around with silver duct tape on my silver boot lid for ages, but most ppl just run the rubber grommets.

It will cost you $400 for a gx bootlid, unpainted from Subaru. Good luck finding one second hand.

I don't have a high-mount brake light in mine either, but it is on my "things to do list"

Craig 19-08-2008 07:43 PM

those 3rd brake lights easy DIY?

ImPreSiV 19-08-2008 08:14 PM

yeah, you can buy it as a part from Subaru, or i think Repco sell one that fits pretty well. Its just about getting the wiring that powers the brake light in your now removed spoiler and sending it thru the parcel shelf from under your boot and connecting positive and negative..

ryandarcy 19-08-2008 08:21 PM

mine got done through a mate ages ago but only cost me like 300 and i got some other paint work done too. my 3rd brake light ain't in either but maybe one day i do it. i think if ya can find a boot cheap would probley be best way to go.

wild_rx 19-08-2008 08:25 PM

if you buy the brake light from subaru it comes with wiring and the plug is already there so you just plug it in.

just use tape to cover the holes :p

Ok to bring up an old topic. I have just removed my Sti spoiler, but now my boot springs up too fast. I removed one of the 'tensioners' (or whatever they are called) but the boot wouldn't even stay up, so have put that back in. Just wandering how to get around this, so the boot springs up like it used to (without putting the spoiler back on ;))???

Evo2 26-01-2009 06:12 PM

Honestly............... Why does it matter how fast your boot springs up ??

phizzle 26-01-2009 06:13 PM

Weigh the spoiler and add similar weight back onto the rear (underside) of the boot

Just use the key to open it that way ya can just use ya hand to stop it flyin up. Or ya can make a game out of it. Pull the leaver n see if ya can get to the boot lid without it openin all the way up haha.
