Dewinged GC8 Opinions!

I have a rally blue 99 WRX. Just want to hear peoples opinions on the appearance of a GC8 With no rear spoiler. As it's virtually impossible to find a STI spoiler i was considering removing the spoiler all together and sending it in to get fresh paint.

Evo2 23-03-2009 01:34 PM

No need to ask, everyone will have their own opinion.

It looks hot, makes the car look lower.

Just do it already! :)

I hear you buddy, I'm gonna do it fow show!!! I was just interested to see what peoples opinions are. I have taken it off in the past but there were holes in the boot and it looked shite. Cover the holes and i'll be a happy camper.

Jezza 23-03-2009 01:39 PM

There are quite a few de-winged gc8's out there now, just take a look at them and make a decision.
SPEC IV, JZR and WILLO to name a few....

that said, it wouldnt be too hard for you to pick up an sti spoiler. ULTREX (based in perth) does replicas for $330

club$pec 23-03-2009 01:44 PM

 lose the spoiler! it looks swish!

Evo2 23-03-2009 01:45 PM

Go to bunnings and get some little black grommets to fill the holes mate, as i and probably most people here have done. :)

Set you back about $5

Daaaamien 23-03-2009 01:45 PM

im also thinking of de-winging my gc8 i think they look pron :D

Evo2 23-03-2009 01:46 PM
 lose the spoiler! it looks swish!
X 2 , from another Clubspec owner!

De-winged clubspec ftw!

JohnWestTuna 23-03-2009 01:46 PM

no wing looks sik, but you need to have a good set of rims and be nice and low. saying that tho, i love my STi spoiler and probaly never part with it

silo's_sube 23-03-2009 01:47 PM

rx...

jzr 23-03-2009 01:54 PM

yeah try and get a rx bootlid as sometimes when the panel shop weld the holes up the the metal may warp.

im another one who loves it dewinged. But as its been said its really a matter of preference.

just make sure its lowered, has wheels and tint. these cosmetic mods set it off in my opinion

EXPLICIT 23-03-2009 01:57 PM

CF boot lid then paint. Weight saving and flush finish in one go.

Grommets look ghetto, always will, they are a fail at fit and finish and look cheap.

reflexwrx 23-03-2009 01:58 PM

The STI Spoiler looks awesome but without the wing will be something a little different. I don't want the black gromits, it will drive me crazy. I'm going to get a few things sprayed so i'll get the boot lid dont at the same time. BUNG!!!

EXPLICIT 23-03-2009 02:01 PM

LTD boot lid lip is a subtle look without the car looking like its povo brother GX.

jEstEr? 23-03-2009 02:01 PM

most cheap aftermarket cf panels look horrible when painted

reflexwrx 23-03-2009 02:14 PM
LTD boot lid lip is a subtle look without the car looking like its povo brother GX.
Where can i see this lip you speak of..?? I think i have seen them on the later model WRX but not on a GC8. I know what you are saying about looking povo. Can look bare sometimes without the wing.

BN01 23-03-2009 02:15 PM

No it wont. Every 2nd GC8 is de-winged these days. Be different and KEEP the wing on.

silo's_sube 23-03-2009 02:26 PM

by saying rx/gx i meant that is what it would look like...some like it
i don't, keep it mean....get the sti wing for an even better look (just my opinion though)

EXPLICIT 23-03-2009 04:13 PM

I know there's a 'duck tail' type aftermarket spoiler available for the GC's, if I can find i'll post it up.

pmh 23-03-2009 04:17 PM

You should sell the sedan GC8 and get a wagon (GF8) and get the proper STi wings for the hatch (top and waist) - other than JME's hatch, i've not seen a hatch with the proper STi wings

nachjoe 23-03-2009 04:26 PM

Pretty simple to take it off..jjust do it and plug it (short term) if U dont like it u can always put it back..look at willos...very sexy!

reflexwrx 23-03-2009 04:34 PM

Yep, i like the look.

ImPreSiV 23-03-2009 04:38 PM

it looks good, but the car has to has some nice wheels, and be slammed. Otherwise they look odd. Saying that, I'm a massive fan of say, Krisian's car, with the big STI wing, or 22b wing. I would go that option, just to be different. Like Blair said, every second car these days is de-winged... mine included :P

GX-REX 23-03-2009 07:55 PM

You havent seen my car then, or Toms off roader.

tommo 23-03-2009 08:19 PM

i think it looks much better with the spoiler, personally not a far of de-winged wrx's..

pmh 23-03-2009 09:39 PM
You havent seen my car then, or Toms off roader.
Tom's (pimpreza) offroader is a one off - not seen one in oz like that

but still, not many hatch with the proper STi wings, both top and waist

GX-REX 23-03-2009 09:50 PM

Agreed. I hope it stays that way. I like my car being different from the herd.

tooslow 24-03-2009 12:43 AM

No wing looks absolutely shit for a rex, looks like there is too much space there. Car just looks unbalanced.

De-winged = Deformed.

olgus69 27-03-2009 06:20 PM

Agreed think it looks too try hard. You may as well buy a 2 door torana and bolt another 2 doors on it... Just my 2 cents.

blue.spec 28-03-2009 04:50 PM

i have an rx boot lid no holes PM me

impreza_GT 02-04-2009 04:41 PM

looks oh so sexy...do it!

Avalanche 09-04-2009 03:58 PM

take it off leave for a while the holes for now so you can put it back if you want it. you will get too many differing opinions her but since its ur car u should make the decision based on what u think. :)

fobz 09-04-2009 05:45 PM

I'm the party police...

You will get a yellow sticker if you do not have a high-mount stop light
in the rear window. Further to this, if someone runs into the back of
you they can say that it was a major contributing factor and you
will get raped by the courts and your insurance company will tell
you to get f*cked when you try to claim.

nuff said.

scoobygez 09-04-2009 05:56 PM

Imho thye dont look right without there spoilers dont do it!!

and fobz is right you will get raped at court and by your insurance :( :(

Haha how is taking a spoiler even close to being a torana

JDM_STYLE 09-04-2009 06:47 PM

Lose the spoiler mate as it looks better than the small one, the name it self is explanatory "SPOILER" :D

IMO taking the small spoiler off gives the car a smoother look.

Can get highmount stop lights that fit into your back window.

Problem solved.
