Thanks for the advice guys,
Having a closer look it just looks like break dust that has bonded/stained onto the medal and not corrosion. Will keep playing around with them. Thanks again. |

Diluted of course, but most wheel acids off the shelf would probaly be pre-diluted anyways.
Harsh stuff, but really only used for heavily pitted rims, don't breathe in and wear gloves. But those rims mate, if you've tried wheel acid off the shelf, it aint moving.

I use Autogym rim cleaner. Works a treat on all the tar and crap and yellow staining from the brake dust on my white rims it also got that sticky crap from the balancing weights off. You can get it at auto one think its about 25 bucks.

I had the same with the 01 wrx rims that i put on my foz. I tried all the hardcore cleaners that I use on a daily basis (including hydrofluoric) and it didnt shift it all. I tried metal polish also to no great success. I think it has something to do with the fact that the inside of the rim isnt painted. It just gets pitted and goes horrible. Also the ribbed finish doesnt help with the cleaning either.
There is the Mothers power ball which is attached to a power drill which might work. At the end of the day once the rims are on the car you dont see too much of the inside of the rim anyway. If it really bugs you then perhaps sand blasting and powder coating is the way to go. |

It's the inside of the wheel, don't stress about it.
Looks like that because they never had any protective finish from when they left the factory because no-one looks there except mechanics. To get that to shine, you need to spin it up and rub it with 300, then 600, then 1200 then buff em. Buffing alone would take an eternity to remove the oxide layer. But I wouldn't bother unless it was a show car.

I used to us hydrochloric acid when I was detailing in brissy. just don't let too much get on you and it will be fine.
Another trick that I have used to clean an exhaust is an oven cleaner product. - don't laugh this actually works. I had tar, burnt rubber, baked on grease and it all came off easily.

I would get the blasted which isn't expensive and then re-sprayed. they will look brand new. you will see that when they are on the car, and knowing its there you will see it even more.
