Local Car Detailers

I was wondering how many car detailing enthusiasts we had on this board? What I mean is those who take it as far as having their own machine polisher and other tools and a various line up of compounds. Doing at least about 6 hrs of detail work on a car.

Post up what you use and pics of your results/ cars you have done!

I got into detailing a while ago and started to build up my own detailer buckets with my Porter Cable. Started doing jobs for family, friends, and other clients through local connections. Ill post pics of some results later.

AHAHA 1. Im too young to have a wife........well....marriages bond even younger every year. I guess what Im trying to say is that Im at a time in my life where I can experiment with trades such as this one and wont have a negative effect on my family time lol.

and 2. I believe that automobiles and the art of detailing produce a very keen and well presented outcome. I take detailing in as an art to properly refurnish things into shape and have it look the best it can be, very much like carpentry lol. Yea I do get tired of lookin at 6+ hours of constant and precise labor, but the outcome at the end gives me the motivation to keep working towards it. I feel proud and rewarded that I am able to help the car achieve its presentable state. I just love a nice looking fucking car! The way it is preserved is most of its character!

Anyways, are there a lot of pro detailers you guys take your cars to? I just had the crazy idea of doing some guest visit detail gigs..... might have a lot to carry, but it is an interesting idea. haha! :D

i've lost all motivation for having a clean car... Every time I wash, clay bar, polish etc, it rains within 48hours... So now, I just don't bother!

Detailing helps better preventing and repelling weather and harsh condition contamination. I would def detail if I lived in harsher conditions, and also would do it for other ppl! haha :p

Doesn't help where I park when it also rains tree sap, bird excrement etc [/QUOTE]

You try using a car cover? I would hate to have that problem, Id probably get a car cover for that. Also layers of compound will prevent those sap stains and other contaminants damage your paint, it'll prolong its life.

I'll begin by saying:

My name is Darren and it's been 2 days since my last detail.....:)

Yeah I've got some cool (and not so cool toys) for keeping the car clean eg. variable speed machine polisher (rotary), dual-action & random orbital polishers, karcher pressure cleaner, karcher single turbine wet & dry vacuum system

As for waxes and cleaning products, pretty much anything I can get my hands on I'll buy and try - Zymol, Swissvax, Autoglym, Meguiars, Mothers to name a few. It's hard to say what I would use because each car responds so differently to different products depending on colour, age, condition, paint-type etc

For black budgie definitely the Autoglym High-Definition Wax seems to bring out the shine without enhancing the imperfections that black tends to highlight more than any other colour and for only $150 is certainly good value when compared to some of the Zymol or Swissvax products which can easily cost into the thousands.

I'll see if I can dig up some pictures (as well as get the owners permission of course) of some of the cars I've been lucky enough to work on but they include plenty of wrx's (of course), a few Porsches, a Masserati, a couple of AMG's, an M3, a few GT-R's and a Datsun 1200 ute to name a few :)
