seatbelt tension

As my car is now ten years old (Club spec evo 4/ MY00, for those playing at home) understandably, some parts are showing their age.

my issue at the moment is that a couple of the seatbelts (driver seat and rear passenger) seat blets are sitting a little slack when they wind in. Rear belt is mainly due to booster seat for my daughter and driver belt maybe because I am a tank ;)

is there a way to resolve this as DIY or do I have to replace them???

Cheers for advice.

Mine did this and I was all set to buy a new seatbelt/pay to get it fixed. Then I found out the cause.

Check the guide near your shoulder. Mine had a buildup of gunk on the plastic and once it was cleaned off it ran like new again.

You can use a length of dental floss, but drag it back and forth across the guide, don't saw into it.

(You need to pull out some belt so it's slack, then hold it high up above the headrest to expose the part of the guide/hangar which is normally holding up the highest point of the belt. That's where the black gunk ends up, right where the belt goes through the hangar and returns down the door. I don't even want to know what that greasy gunk is, but I blame Hungry Jacks/Maccas.)

Yep, it's usually dirt in the webbing. If it's bad enough you can remove the complete belt/reel from the car, pull it all out of the reel and clamp it with a bulldog clip so it doesn't retract. Then wash/scrub the webbing in wool wash and warm water using a nail brush. Keep the reel out of the water obviously. Wash the top pivot plastic thing too. Let it dry and it'll work like new again.
