R cam - Head unit I/F

Howdy peeps,

Thought I might just bang this here, for those who are car A/V minded to answer for me. :)

I have a Kenwood indash DVD player, (KVT747DVD), and bought a reverse camera off Fleabay to use with it. (One with no monitor, as the Kenwoods hide-a-way box has A/V, R cam inputs, etc).

Off the back of the camera, its simply one yellow RCA lead, (to go to hide-a-way box I/P), a power lead, (that you splice into reversing light power and gnd), and thats it.

Did that, (assume) the camera is getting power, as reverse light comes on when you engage Reverse, but no picture. Have gone into setup screen, have "R cam interupt" set to on, etc, but no joy. Think I've tried everything. Seller is good about it all, but thinks as the camera is PAL, that my screen may not support? Dont they do PAL and NTSC?

Thoughts? Happy to be corrected if it's something ridiculous I've overlooked. :o

have you run a wire from the reverse light into the head unit ? need this for it to get a signal

Hrmmm... No... I did not. And really? :(

Thats ghey. The little booklet said just splice into the lights power and ground. This powers the camera on, and then the rca lead into the DVD players 'R cam in' at the other end. As there is a 'little black box' too, between the camera and the 3 wired outputs, I figured this was either a convertor or inline fuse also.

I might look at another option... lol. But thanks for that.

Brent if you need a hand gimme a buzz.

It could just be me, but it seems retarded having an 'r cam in' RCA port on the hideaway box, and all the setup options in 'AV I/F screen 2', if you have to run seperate wires to the deck/box anyway. (Or I could just be lazy and not seeing the 'bigger picture').

I was going to send the camera back today, but I might try this last thing before I do.

RCA won't transmit power etc, so you need something to tell the head unit you are in reverse for it to change modes.

Or you can option the unit with ESP so it knows what you are thinking, but I found mine just played porn all day...

WIN!!! :D <3

Many, many thanks to Dragon_wrx, who set me straight! After a great pdiddy lunch with Yankee Dave, Matt Cooper, Phildo, Dave and Andrew, and then a trip out to Ozzy Park to see Ross, (thanks again for my ongoing Nissan spares ), it was time to head home, determined to win.

A quick search on the Google, found the Installation Guide, (I only previously had the Instruction Guide), and lo and behold, Page 4, was the wiring guide to the multi pin plug going into the deck itself! Pink wire reads as "reverse sensor wire, connect to vehicles reverse lamp harness". :book1:

Function test first, wires dangling through the car, I hooked up the RCA lead from cam to hideaway box, power (12vdc and gnd) off reverse light, and a trace wire from +12vdc spliced into the pink wire into the deck. Set the option to 'auto override' (so as soon as you click car into reverse... you get this):

Happy camper! :D

Re-routed the wiring through the car, so I know its better than a pro job, replace the removed skins/garnish panels/seats where applicable, job done.
