Dynamatting the front doors
 

Had a chat with the guys down at A-one Audio (fantastic blokes, really helpful) the other day and they recommended putting Dynamat in the boot lid when getting a sub to avoid the rattles.

I've seen a few people on wrx.com.au Dynamatting their front doors too. Has anyone else done this, and was it worth it?

I will be having my front doors dynamatted on Friday by Macey @ Westside Car Audio Cannington. Macey reccomended just the front for now, wait for a little while for stuff to loosen up (speakers + sub) and then see if there are any further rattles from anywhere else in the car

Dynamat is amazing, I have just a small square around and behind the speakers. And it makes heaps of difference. Less rattling and heaps better bass.

That sounds like a sensible option. I'm trying to keep the car as stock looking as possible so avoiding Dynamatting the rear would be awesome from that POV. I'm going to get it booked in for Early in May for a headunit and front speaker upgrade so figured that they might as well Dynamat the front whilst they've got the doors apart.

Yeah really happy with the friendly and down to earth advice those guys gave me (I'm a complete newbie to car audio), they really took the time to explain everything and the effect various setups would have.

You don't need to do the boot lid just a big enough wing to hold it down

Used to have a stereo car. I did the boot lid, sides, floor,parcel shelf, roof and doors. Had no rattles, except the windscreen used to flex and the speedo needle used to move, got more midbass from front splits.

+1 to riceman1991's tip. Small drivers in front stage, just do small section where the speaker sits. Dynamat is heavy stuff :(

It all depends on the subwoofer you end up going and the volume you have it at.

With dynamat you will never take a step back, it will always help with resonance in someway thus improving your system. If you aren't so keen on it to begin with, I suggest put your sub/s in your car and have a listen. If you find that you have vibrations then target those specific areas.

For my sub combined with the style of music I listen to, my rear shelf and spare tyre well tends to resonate the most.

From an audio perspective Dynamatt equals less resonance hence better sound. You'll never go backwards with it excepting adding weight to the car.
