I don't take mine out, people wouldn't really give it a second glance as where it is mounted just looks like the mirror.

IfI had it in the middle of the windscreen I would be inclined to remove it and the mount in dodgy areas and put it in the glovebox....

You can also use the switched stereo +, but like I said, I had a un-obstructed path from the switch to the clock and from there to the a-pillar....
