To wait 12 weeks for rims or not???
So ive got a 08 wrx hatchback and ive finally decided im going to get new rims for my car. I have stock suspension on atm. I went in to TECH9Tyres today to see what they had. Now ive seen another sedan same year without the flared guards running 18x9 "work emotion XD9" on it but im not sure what offset he had on it. Just curious if anyone has them on there car and what offset youre running. The guy in the store said that i could have a fairly aggressive but legal look with 18x9 at +25 offset. Just want to double check thats all. Lastly the rims apparently will take 12weeks to get here as they have to be custom made to order. Any help would be much appreciated :)

Well
You want the rims - wait You dont want the rims - dont wait ? |
The 9" wide rims with +25 offset is going to require some pumping and rolling of the guards plus some coilovers to make it fit right and not rub like a biatch
|
well i really do like them so i think i will wait. Do you know if they will do the rolling and pumping there? And if i do need coilovers what will they set me back?

The MY11+ WRX rims fit nicely on the 08-10 models.
Not as aggressive but you won't have any issues with fitment. Failing that, 18x8.5 +43/+44 fits nicely on the 08-10 models as well. |
Tech 9 has a body shop attached to it, so yes.
They are good at what they do. |
LOL @ +25

On a more serious note, Soksta posted my car above. I run 18x8.5 +44 and the tires are flush with the guards with -1 negative camber. I wish you the best of luck.

+25, as stated above is absolutely ridiculous. I'm running 18x9.5 +30 on my MY11 with rolled guards -3 camber at the front and rear camber bushes installed to -2.5 at the back just so they can squeeze in... You'd need some serious body work done for what you're looking at! With that said, offset means everything with these setups, had 18x9.5 +38 on my previous wheels and they fit perfectly without any rear camber, the extra 8mm makes a massive difference.
I suggest to make things easier that you try and stick within -15 offset of your stock wheels. |
Try JDM CONCEPT for WORKS rims as they are the official distributor.

Tech9 didnt have to move packs to make stacks? |
The MY11+ have a much wider guard than our 08 hatches Koby. You are going to struggle to find a deep dish rim to suit without going Mexican

Haha fair enough. So you think 18x9 with a +38 will fit after rolling of my guards? Or will I also need coilovers? Sorry I'm really not a car savy person I'm a sparky :D |
You would want coilovers just for the look and stance that you're trying to achieve, let alone the additional camber adjustment. Therefore I'd say yes. You will definitely need your guards rolled at a minimum. What size tire are you thinking of going with?
I'm not the best person to ask about stance as I'm quite conservative and not a fan of stance/lowering/excessive camber. |
more offsett wont give you more dish....the wider rim will give you more dish...from memeory xd9 18x10 gives your 3' dish, 18x9.5 is aout 2-2.5" dish
you will want like 235/40/18 or 245/40/18 tyres to fit 9.5" rim, any wider then 245 and you will scrub....im speaking from experience with an 06 STI so this is my recommendation. 18x9.5 +35 XD9's Front and rear - $1700 235/40/18 will give you a little stretch but not too much. - min$300 to max$2000 for tyres Coilovers which are height/camber/dampner adjustable (HSD,STD,TEIN,CUSCO ect) - $1200+ roll guards front and rear - $300 wheel alignment at wheels world. $99.00+ total your looking at $3,599 all fitted and aligned, and thats the cheapest way, if you ant good tyres obviously more like $4000-$4500 and thats how you WILL make those wheel sizes fit on your car ;)
Ok that all sounds like alot of work ahah i like the dish look but its alot of work. im thinking i may just go for something clean like this wrx from the US but go 18x9 instead of 18x9.5 like he has |
but im not sure whether i want those in black or bronze hmm.....
lol 18x9 is gonna be the same deal.....if you want it to look like all these stanced cars rolling around you have to do it properly and spend the money or it will look shit..
and those arn't xd9's in the pic you just posted....they are xd7's, word of advice, just go 18x8.5 +44 to save yourself the head ache, its not as easy as just getting big wheels and slapping them on, do it right or not at all....tech9tyres just want your money, they wont care once you leave and get a yellow sticker....its not their problem anymore.... up to you at the end of the day but just my advice.
yeh i dont mind spending the money i just want to have someone do all the work for me and not have to worry about getting a yellow sticker if i get pulled over. If i were to get the xd9's at 18x9 +38 once the coilovers and rolling of the guards are all done will it honestly be legal? if so i will do that if not then ill just settle for 18x8.5 |

If you get 18x8.5 +44, you won't need to get coilovers installed to get them to fit. Unless you want that slammed look, lowering springs might do it and you should also get some camber from them. If that isn't enough, you can always get a set of Whiteline camber bolts to help sort the front out. End of the day, 18x8.5 will be a lot less work to fit! |
I wouldn't buy off eBay. Go genuine supplier or there is a good chance you'll get china JDM

Koby, below is a photo of a '09 WRX with 18 x 9.5" +35
It hangs out the guards by 8-10mm. If you get a prick of a cop, you'll cop a yellow. It's just a case of whether you want to risk it. |

I'm probably going to go with 18x9" +38 which should have less of over hang yeh? |
legally speaking you are allowed to increase wheel track by 25mm maximum.
only 12.5 mm per side. the most common way of changing wheel track is by changing wheel offset. to keep it legal and more importantly your insurance valid you can theoretically run 12.5mm less off set than the standard wheels. for example if you car came factory with +55mm offset wheels you can change wheel offset to +42.5mm. please note; wheel spacers, and excessive negative camber will also increase wheel track. |
