Slight mods and passing PITTS

About to get the new rexxy licenced.

Called one place to suss out a couple of things to make sure they will be ok.

Found out I need a permit for the pod filter. So while I look into this permit and realise its only like $22 should I go ahead and add to that:

-moon roof
-aftermarket radiator
-kings superlow springs
-De-winged

Would add the 3" TBE ive got to throw on but thinking its best to wait until after I pass the pitts to do that as I dont want to fail due to noise or emissions. (would be nice to throw the mod cert in a cops face tho :hmh:)

Also does anyone know is this a once off permit or do they slug you every year for it.

Spektre 04-06-2014 11:17 AM

dewinged and radiator means fuck all, springs dont matter unless its lower than 100mm at its lowest point

moon roof? you mean sunroof? did it come with it standard?

nachjoe 04-06-2014 12:33 PM

As per the website any body mods and engine need to be reported :S

Same as suspension and steering. It actually asks if you lowered it or raised it.

Yep moon roof...sun roof or fully open to moon - guess it was put in after so non standard.

Check it:

De-winging isn't a 'mod' seeing as the RX/RS comes wingless - be sure to have a working high level brake light or you will fail the inspection though.

Radiator doesn't require a permit.

The PDF link above is for an application to the DOT for modifications.
Not all mods require approval.

It's all on their web site

Yep trying to source me one of these....none at super cheap...any ideas?

teejay 04-06-2014 12:57 PM

Haha bro, just take it in as is, leave exhaust off until its regoed.

Make sure its clean, not leaking oil.

If you cant find a brake light stick the wing back on for now.

nachjoe 04-06-2014 01:00 PM

Yeh but seeing as im going over and paying for inspection anyway thought may as well pay extra $22 and if cops wanna start shit I can be all like well hello muthafker better check yoself before u wreck yoself and produce my mod cert!!

teejay 04-06-2014 01:02 PM

A permit is worth less than the toilet paper we wipe our ass with man. Get it, and keep it on you, but if a cop wants to yellow you, he will.

If you get engineering certs they can help but certainly worth more than 22 bucks!

Yeh bro, ive spent all morning researching this...and I apply to it:

Body modifications.

Suspension and steering.

nachjoe 04-06-2014 01:14 PM

Ok well stuff this, its a 6 week current wait for a “approval in principle" to take along when I go over the pits....Need my car licenced before then...looks like i'll wing it with the moon roof/radiator/springs and will source a rear centre brake light.

Any suggestions on where to get a break light?

Rossco 04-06-2014 01:24 PM

Auto pro, repco, Auto one

Throw your permit in a coppers face & he'll sticker you for worn pedal pads or worn seat belts for being a wanker.

Pimpreza 04-06-2014 02:00 PM

If your spoiler doesn't have a brake light built in just leave it off, they won't care, make sure your pod is held in place with a steel bracket, it's a sun roof and they were a Subaru option so I wouldn't worry about it and a moon roof is a perspex dome they put on weird hot-rods and experimental cars in the 50's and 60's.

nachjoe 04-06-2014 02:20 PM

Cheers Pimpreza, spoiler does have a break light just found out universals are $33 at repco LED but need to hard wire it or rewire into the existing plug.

Cheers for the info on the sunroof!

Actually as new law you need to have a modification permit for a pod filter and I dont want to wait 6 weeks for that has anyone got a stock air box I can borrow?

Looking at taking it over next tuesday - would really appreciate!

All you need to do to get a pod permitted is make sure it's secured with a bracket, go to the department of transport, buy a modification permit receipt for $22 or something, and present that upon inspection. They'll then assess it and if they approve it you'll be issued with a permit for it.

Only applies for the super basic stuff like pod filters and extractors, things like exhausts, chassis modifications, etc etc need to go through the whole application form/engineering process.

riceman1991 04-06-2014 06:11 PM

if you have your spoiler you can unscrew the brake light out of that, velcro onto your shelf and run the wires. i had mine like this for ages, before i found a proper gx brake light for sale
