Default Grate Under Battery Of MY99 WRX?

Hey Guys,

I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether or not you can remove the grate that sits under the battery of the MY99 WRX? It looks to be apart of the body of the car or is it just siliconed in place? I hope this makes sense with what Im talking about.

Cheers

Are you talking about the plastic case or the metal base?

If the metal base:

I'd say it'd be spot welded, so you would need to locate the spot welds and grind them off, being careful not to grind through both sides of the metal.

Yes, the metal base. I was thinking this too. Which sucks!

I have cut thru and removed that tray(mounting dry sump tank)....it is part of a spot welded in skin that makes up part of the chassis rail with brackets etc as well....not just a tray spot welded ontop after everything else is complete. Impossible to remove cleanly !

Why you want to remove it ?

Clean up some rust beneath the dam thing. Of all places to be on the car!

Post up some pic's, there may be an alternate method, do you have access to an air compressor.

You could also try a combination of chemical/sanding.

No but it probably is the best thing to use for this location. I will see what I can come up with.
