How to affix/secure sub woofer in boot of GC8
 

Yo.

So I purchased a sub woofer box, made of fibreglass and mostly moulded to the shape of the driver side corner of the boot in my GC8. The sub box fits snug, except when I turn right the forces are enough to push it out into the middle of the boot.

How do I affix/secure the sub box?

I've tried velcro strips but the sub box isnt quite a perfect fit on the inside where it meets the lining of the boot (and the velco doesnt stick too well to the carpet in the boot anyway).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Methods I've seen are either brackets into the false floor panel, or straps. Brackets are a pain if the spare ever has to come out, and the false floor is flimsy - straps are at least more user friendly but people often do them a bit half assed and make it look like they're transporting a box on the back of a ute.

I'd look at attaching a couple flat webbed straps with clips to the back of the box, and then attach the other ends of the straps to the body to existing fasteners; one up the top behind the interior panel, and one under the boot carpet. Box then clips to straps to keep it in place, and it's easily removable should you need to get it out.

You could also remove the sub from the enclosure, drill two holes through the enclosure and the boot floor, then bolt it down.
Can then trim the false floor and carpet so there is easy access to the spare wheel when needed.

Cut a straight line to cut the carpet and glue the cut part down, that way it still looks good and complete

I think this ^^ is what I'll have to do.

Maybe stick a bolt in from the underside of the car, fix some nuts on the top side, and then drill a hole into the sub box. That way the sub box can drop into place and the bolt through the hole will stop it from moving about. I wont even need to use a nut to hold the sub box down, its just to stop it sliding/moving when cornering.

Small update.

Sticking a bolt in from the underside wasn't able to be done. There is a chassis rail (or something like it) on the under side of the car in line with where the sub box sits. But, there was a plastic plug in that area (when looking in the boot) and when I pulled the plug out, there was a hole about 8 to 10 mm in diameter.

I screwed a long screw into the bottom of the sub box, and when fitting the sub box into the corner of the boot, the screw that is sticking out on the underside of the sub now slots into that 8mm hole already there, and the theory is it should stop the sub box from sliding about.

I'll update this thread in a week or two.......

Why don't you make a replacement mdf floor for the boot. Bolt it down to that
