Thanks for the help guys.

The car was cold when I started washing it, the spots are all over the car, not sure about paint protection. Could be water marks as I was a bit tardy wiping it down at the end, but I don't think so as it looks like a residue of some sort. I'll have a go this weekend again. Not sure about which Meguiars product I used, green fluid, I'll check tonight.
Jimmy S, PM sent.

Can also depend on the quality of water in your area. Living in Balcatta i now have to pay extra attention when im cham'ing the car down after a wash, in comparison to the water in Willetton (my parents place where i used to live) i find i get quite a bit of white residue in hard to get places.

My 2 Cents

Ohh and one of the most important things is to NEVER use one of those cheap foam sponge things. NEVER.

They do far more harm than good. You dont realise until later down the track, but big cause of scratches and swirls. After you've just spent 15K+ on a car, dont skimp and spend 2 bucks on a sponge!

Use a hand wool mitten (glove). Easy to find, cheap, Meg's make a couple of good ones and they do make a difference. Ohh and it pays to use the "2 bucket method". One with car wash + water and one with clean water for the hand mitten after u wash over each panel.

Hardly a science but the more effort you put in, the better your car comes up

http://www.cheekei.net/gallery/album...normal_SKY.JPG. Close up of my bonnet. Whole car was like this for about 3 days and looked great. Shame it didnt last!

As for the spotting, I think maybe the water in your area is a little hard.

I can wash my car when the paint is burning hot, and it still doesnt spot.

Yeah.. The water in the area can affect it but i only live down the road from him so i dont think thats whats causing it in this case!...
I think it may be to do with the chamois you used... cos if the chamois is totalled it can often leave a layer of greasy crap on your paintwork...
