Help - Kitten wheel cleaner buggered my calipers
 

Hi,

I tried Kitten wheel cleaner for the first (and last) time yesterday and now my used-to-be-black brake calipers or all grey and faded looking.

Does anyone know the best way to clean that stuff off?

Apparently, if you use dishwashing liquid when you clean a car, it strips everything. Great for removing a couple of layers of wax / bugs etc. May work BUT i dunno about dishwashing liquid and brakes.

Clay baring the caliper would also work, but too much effort involved!

Always pays to use decent cleaing products IMHO.... Least you know they work, work well and have been extensively tested!

Kitten wheel cleaner works real well at cleaning of all the brake dust... just makes your brake calipers look like youve just driven through 10km of mud and let it dry on them...
Definitely worth paying the difference for Meguires... works a treat!!

Almost ALL wheel cleaners are midly acid based, so you have to expect some paint fade and whitening to calliper paint etc. Meguiars used to make a non-acid wheel cleaner, but not sure whether its still available.

OK, Meguiars from now on, thanks for the feedback.

Hope I can get the calipers looking good again. Maybe good old elbow grease will do it.

On a related matter, used Meguiars car wash on the weekend and did all the right things, washed in shade, one section at a time, used a sheet of running water to rinse the car not a spray, dried the car down afterwards etc. But I was not happy with the result as it finished up with a spotty residue on the paintwork. The only thing I can think off is that I made the washing solution too strong (Who knows what a fluid ounce is anyway?).

Any ideas

what wash did you use?? have you got paint protection on your car?... sounds odd.... btw where abouts in Wembley Downs are u?? im just off Weaponess rd!!

You said you washed the car in the shade, however was the car warm?

When you wash a car when its still hot, if you look closely you can often see a spotty residue / water marks. You dont really notice it untill you start drying though. Perhaps it was that?

Did the residue form towards the "end" of the car (ie you started wiping it down near the boot and the crap was on the bonnet)?

Megs is an exceptional BFYB product and even their pink "soft wash Gel" shouldnt leave any residue.
