im looking at fitting 17x8 rims with 5x100 +53 offset to my gc8. would there be any problems with clearance or guards. 2012 wrx rims. I think it should be alright, just not sure about +53 offset with rim width.

GC8 WRX Rims: 16x7 +53
MY12 WRX Rims: 17x8 +53

So there would be 13mm LESS clearance to the outer gaurd and 13mm LESS clearance to the suspension / inner guard.

MY12 WRX rims on a GC8:

Hey guys need some help deciding on new Rim's for my 06 sti.

I was hoping to get some Rota Grid R's (18"x9.5) just for looks, then swapping back to stock 17" rims for track days. The rota's won't fit with that offset without guard rolling, camber etc. I don't want to do anything like that to my car, but I found a picture with some really nicely fitted Grid R's:

It doesn't look like the owner has rolled the guards or has any camber. the Rims sit nicely in the guard. What I was looking at here are the disks behind the Rim, what are they? where can I buy them? Will this ultimately have an affect on my handling/ performance when I try and put the stock 17" rims back on and use the car on the track? Sorry if I sound like a noob, any help on this would be great, thanks guys.

R U sure those are 18x 9.5 on that pig nose? I test fitted those exact rims that you want to my old bugeye and some serious (or silly) work was going to be needed to fit them properly. I sold them to a 2011 WRX owner who still had to get the guards rolled to fit them to his car.

I'm not 100% sure that they are 18x9.5 but the rota australia website only sells them with the 9.5 width and no lower. I spoke with vision R today and they confirmed it. They also said I would need some serious guard rolling and cmaber to make them fit :/

20mm wider/5% lower profile than stock give u better handling in general, and will not through ur speedo out much. So 255 with 9" rim is the way to go imo. Overwidth gives too much camber wear and rolling resistance.

Do not go for streched tyre (265-9.5", 255-9", 245-8.5") unless u wanna drift and tyre has stiff sidewall.

Did some research, ran some numbers on some fitment calculators online which were a huge help. Without doing anything to the hub/ stub or changing the shock's these rims will not fit and have roughly 1-1.5 inches of poke which I could see myself being yellow stickered for easily. I don't want to do anything to the car to reduce handling and performance for when I track the car, to make these rims fit I would throw out the cars balance. I really like the style of those rims though, I might look at the ultrex rims thanks all paws and thanks to everyone else for their input. Cheers
