Had a customer come through with a Exedy Heavy Duty clutch kit (FJK-7123HD) from Exedy locally. Opened the box and on closer inspection, realised the clutch and pressure plates are totally different from the Japanese Exedy Stage 1 Racing Clutch, which to most of us, have been known to be exactly the same.

Also went online to:
Exedy - Spec Sheet
and the finding was shocking!

Will post up info and pics shortly.

Below is the 7123HD (listed as Sports Tuff) brought in by a P.WRX member.

I have crossed-reference every part number in the 7123HD Kit (please see the part numbers in the pics below). In contrary, none of the parts in the kit are made in Australia and the part numbers reference to stock OEM Exedy replacement clutch in Japan although it says HD for heavy duty on the Exedy Australia Pty Ltd Box.

Exedy clutch plate p/no.: FJD024U
Exedy Pressure plate p/no.: FJC521

Pics are below:

Will post up the comparison to the Stage 1 organic shortly which I believe would be the same as the Stage 1 FJK-7123SO in the Exedy Australia Spec sheet.

Hi Ken,
The 2.5 wrx 5sp run on a push type clutch. Just installed one this week. Have the Exedy stage 1 and 3s in stock.

Yes Exedy does one for the GH WRX 5sp. It is different to the GC and GD 5spd though.

Price is the same as the GC and GD.

So back to comparison between the Exedy Stage 1 Pressure plate (pt no.:H22513) vs the Exedy OEM HD Pressure plate (part no.:FJC521).

Below is Exedy Stage 1 Pressure Plate (Pt no.:H22513) ---- note the centre springs which are different from the Exedy HD.

Below is the Exedy HD Pressure Plate (Pt no.:FJC521):

Below is the Exedy Stage 1 Organic Heavy Duty Clutch Plate --- note that there are more marked grooves, two more centre springs and the rivets are brass:

Below is the Exedy OEM replacement HD Clutch Plate:
