Internet - Baldivis

Just wondering if any of the baldivis people here were connected to the Baldivis exchange (not the settlers hills one)?

and if so, what speeds are you getting on your internet connection?

(to see what exchange clicky http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/ )

Cable Gauge
Cable Thickness
Cable Age
Cable Joints
Cable Distance

All of the above play a part in the Loss of ADSL signal from the exchange to your wall socket.

Everyone will have speeds ranging from 24Mbps down to 1.5Mbps

I know how it works in regards to DSL signal(s) Im asking because I hear that particular exchange there is overloaded, and a few people are complaining of less than dialup speed for ADSL connections.
Im about to move into the area and was just curious to see before I pick a connection to go with.

The BALDIVIS exchange only has Telstra ADSL2+ infrastructure installed in it.

DSLAM Congestion has been reported from Telstra to this exchange on multiple occasions.

This exchange is also artificially shaped as it is a very small exchange, most peoples Sheds are larger than this exchange. (Google Street View 361 Baldivis road)

hmm undoubtedly, despite the expanding area, Telstra wont do a thing about it.

Is Telsta wholesaling their ADSL2+ yet? Be terrible if you are forced to use them.

I think they are, but only to a few providers. Thing is though, I looked into the prices of the ones using Telstras DSlam, and the prices are expensive. Compared to using an iinet or Amnet dslam

For those of you in the area or moving to the area...

Baldivis ADSL = Fail!

I signed up for 512k. and here is the speeds I get.
Webpages - depends on time of day and which site, sometimes its loads ok, sometimes its very slow
Downloading from a webpage link - Complete fail, lucky to get 2kb/sec. Most of the time the download ends up timing out.
Torrents - International - 2kb/sec max
- Local - 40/45kb/sec (Aus sites/seeders)
Games (L4D2/TF2) - Works fine, ping of 110 - 140. Not the lowest ping, but no lag and still very playable.

Got to ring amnet again tomorrow to follow up as they supposedly sending someone to the exchange to check a few things.
