Connect PS3 to projector
I want to connect my PS3 to a Sony projector, but there is no HDMI input on the projector. I've attached a pic of the video in options for the projector, any ideas? Can you get a HDMI to VGA converter?

somewhere like Dick Smith, & how much do they cost? |
yes - try ebay, Google, etc, etc...

Why not just use the RCA's that come with the PS3 and bung it into the yellow hole?

Depends on what you're going to try and watch. From my understanding,
bluray movies played on PS3 output only to the HDMI using DRM. If you do use the composite out the quality is deliberately reduced further (beyond the normal SD) so the pic quality could be even crapier than you expect. This is done to try and reduce copying the output of movies via composite (coz it has no integrated DRM). If you're only using if for games you could be OK since I don't belive the DRM comes into it. Bottom line, don't get too excited and expect a fantastic picture. Happy for anyone else to jump in and prove me wrong on this. |
Time to Upgrade tghe Projector, good excuss now :)

The converter wold probably cost about $100. It's converting digital signal to an analog signal...so you're paying to downgrade the picture quality and project it to a bigger screen. In my opinion....no point.

As already mentioned, be careful with HDMI to analogue because HDMI generally contains DRM and the resulting analogue signal will either be non-existant or totally crap. Get a new projector that supports HDMI as per Tims suggestion. |
Find a mate with an old PS2 lead you can borrow. It will work if you connect up the yellow to yellow.
Also you will need to press and hold the power button on the PS3 to reset the video mode or it wont work. (Do the same when you plug it back into your normal TV) |
HDMI to DVI keeps the quality its just going back to VGA that drops it.
Just get new projector mate sell that one will make it not such a big spend. Blue ray is just not worth watching on anything less than 1080I |
^^^ Damn straight!
