Fuel Pump for Verso Tune

I rang up to get a quote on getting a verso tune done on my car (should be in July), that aside, I was advised I should upgrade my fuel pump from the standard fuel pump (my car for those who dont know is a my02 wrx) to something better...

Firstly, is it really necessary, or are they trying to sell me something i dont need.
Secondly, if I should upgrade the fuel pump, can someone please:
A - Recommend a good fuel pump and roughly what it cost to buy
B - Some please give me a run through on how to change the fuel pump over.

They want to charge me $300 for a walbro fuel pump fitted, but from what I understand, I can save a decent amount of money by just buying the pump and fitting it myself.

DarkMoose 22-04-2007 02:31 AM

Yes you need a fuel pump upgrade. Yes you can save yourself some cash fitting it yourself.

chee 22-04-2007 03:01 AM

pump upgrade is for peace of mind.

02 car, 5 year old pump.

Whereas you can upgrade the pump (to something that flows better) and something newer. Pump failure is gay.

DarkMoose 22-04-2007 03:25 AM

Gay enough to get rid of a 2.2 jun stroker :(

Get a bosch 910, around 100 bucks second hand and plenty good enough for your application

JDM_STYLE 22-04-2007 11:24 AM

Thinking of getting Verso soon on my 07, would the standard 2.5lt engine fuel pump be fine or should i upgrade aswell?

The only mods I will have is a 3"tbe.

At the moment I don't think it would be worth it for you. Maybe worth thinking about when you do more mods.

Why would you buy a second hand pump?

No need to upgrade, it's something you do when it gets old

Get a Walbro 255 L/PH one from Ebay.

EL 19 22-04-2007 08:31 PM

Sorry if this is a silly question. What is a verso tune? Fuel pumps, regulators, injector mods?

RichX 22-04-2007 08:38 PM
Sorry if this is a silly question. What is a verso tune? Fuel pumps, regulators, injector mods?
Type of ECU reflash .. Done by ASG and Speedworks? .. You do what you need to do to the car .. Intake/Exhaust ra ra ra .. then you get a Verso tune :)

Kato 22-04-2007 09:26 PM

Guys, its quite simple.

You should be trusting with your tuner, so talk to them and find out what will be the best thing for you. If your tuner is recommending a fuel pump, then there is a good reason for it. (That being it is a very inexpensive way of ensuring you will get enough fuel to the motor)

We all pay good money for our cars, yet some of us seem to want to shortcut a few steps to save a hundred bucks on a mod. As mentioned before couple of hundred for a fuel pump or a couple of thousand for a new motor later on. Seems like good insurance.

Also, I would recommend against doing all your mods, driving around for a while, then getting a tune done. This can cause untold damage to your car. Again, speak to your tuner, tell them the goals of your car, get their advice on what to do.
Sorry if this is a silly question. What is a verso tune? Fuel pumps, regulators, injector mods?
Verso is an inexpensive way of re-tuning the stock ecu. Similar to ECUtek. Other alternatives are a complete new ecu (Motec/Autronic/Link) or piggyback (don't do it)

All Star Garage are currently the only tuners able to do Verso. Best way to find out anything about it is to call them on 9248 7433.

EL 19 22-04-2007 09:35 PM

Have got a Link installed. Definitely agree to no piggyback units.. Thanks for the info mate..
Why would you buy a second hand pump?
kind of defeats the purspose of replacing your pump. Also if you are buying your own pump and it seems awesomly cheap, just make sure it isnt a china rip off

Jaron, you're a mod whore! :p

:D

mr_psi 23-04-2007 09:22 PM

upgrade for sure... dont want to lean out mate

EL 19 24-04-2007 12:07 AM

Hi.. am running 19Psi after new ECU tuning.. not too sure whether I am going to get a better fuel pump immediately.
Do you have to retune/reflash the car again after a pump upgrade?
Isn't a pump upgrade useless without better rails and injectors?

maddog 25-04-2007 07:56 AM

Folks
When the Bug Eye Impreza first came out some of us sat at a WA Impreza OBC meeting listening to Brett Middleton of MRT. The main part of the story was MRT had tested the fuel pumps and found the new age WRX fuel pump was barely able to supply enough fuel for a good fart...let alone a modified engine... :D

Do listen, don't listen who gives a toss. Puts more money back into the local workshops and keeps the economy buoyant... :eusa_booh
