Default Up pipe 06 STi

Thinking about new turbo ( Probably an AVO400 ). Has been suggested to do a silicon intake and and up pipe at the same time.

Think the silicon intake is a good idea but will an up pipe make a noticeable difference.

My understanding was the bug eyes had a cat in the up pipe and it did make a big difference but is it just a waste of 200-300 bucks on an 06 or money well spent.

Waste i reckon .. Unless you like nice shiny pipes under your engine bay which you can't see, or perhaps another item to put onto your wang list.

Definitely go the Silicone Inlet but!

Up-pipe only is a waste of time. If you are after big number, then you should consider doing the whole exhaust manifold. But the stock manifold is good for well over 200kw ATW. If seen a few people with 250 ATW and still have the stock manifold. Although if you do reach these kinds of numbers a new manifold will be a good upgrade.

Up-pipe isnt required on anything but an 01/02 WRX, due to the pre-turbo catalytic converter on these models.

What the - is this true?

Spent 2.5 hours today and removed intercooler and all bolts on the turbo heat
shield and got the shield free and decided that wasnt going to have enough time to change the up-pipe after all when still couldnt see the bolts and loads of heat shields to go so put back together.

I have two MY04's to fit 3 inch TBE and Up-pipes to - but aint doing up-pipes if not needed.

Looks like I'll need a weekend each car to fit the zorsts and uppies.

Thought I read somewhere that 3 inch up-pipe lead to faster spool of turbo
somewhere - although read so much that generally just confused these days.

When I bought the exhausts the up-pipes were included?? why include on MY 04 exhaust if not needed?

Increasing the diameter of the up-pipe will generally give less performance, and increase spool times, as you're essentially slowing down the velocity of the exhaust gases hitting the turbo.

Don't do it dude.
