Nah man, no curbs .. It really sounds like it's brake related.

What does it sound like when your rear struts are on the way out?

eoarerereoarr haha. but if your strut was not strutting properly it would cause heaps of vibration and knocks and all sorts. As everyone else has said it's probably worn pads, but while you're changing those get some new wheel bearings for piece of mind. Mind you I'm saying this without knowing if they are cheap or not

Haha yeah .. I was gonna ask you how much they were! Car just just bin in for it's Super Major Extended 100K Service, where LOTS of stuff has been replaced.

Car doesn't really do any drifting apart from a handbrake turn on the wet into work occasionally. Perhaps by chance though, it seems to be coming from the wheel which takes the most load during the slide.

Who did the service? They must have done a roadworthy check on it for ya and they would have told you the rear pads are getting low

Mine does it also, and I've worn out 2 sets of pads in 45000km...

Only solution is to possibly rebuild the calipers, because I've tried everything else including greasing up slide pins, etc.

Yeah .. Well thats the thing .. The pads on the outer side of the rotor look fine, 3-4mil left of them .. So i'd be surprised that the inner pads have worn out and the outsides still have some meat left on them?

The guy i use is top notch - He does all his work privately from his home. He roadtested the car after doing all the timing belt, water pump etc and all is fine.

Only just noticed this noise when braking very very slowly with the radio off. You still have to listen very very closey due to the exhaust.

Just don't like the metal/metal grinding sound .. Where the fuck is it coming from.

Found this info on a website about the grinding noise when decelerating (my GC8 Rex has that noise too from left rear, sounds as if the diff has given up the ghost or something):

Transmission makes noise during deceleration

This is a common problem, but technically not a problem at all. It's just a matter of inconsistent factory backlash in the ring-and-pinion gear. Some models do it more than others.

The Subaru dealership can fix the problem, but not with performance in mind. The dealership will replace the 27 -pound flywheel with a heavier model to keep the gearbox loaded, thus eliminating a decelerating noise.

Going the opposite direction with the flywheel weight will not get rid of the noise, nor will it increase it. The lighter flywheel will be noticeable in how quickly the car finds its powerband. Suggestion: Get over the noise. It's not a big deal, and certainly not worth compromising power.

I would swap out the rear pads if they only have a few mm on them just to be sure. They dont cost much and you can then cross them off the list.
