hey guys im about to buy a new wrx but this guy sed he had put in 95 ron into this 05 model is that all right or would this damage the engine? plz let me know as i dont want to buy a lemon car again sigh

why wouldnt you get the car fully inspected rather then just take a guess based on a forum response?

as for me, if it was run on anything but 98 id tell him to eat a dick.

Depending on how the owner drove the vehicle, (and from the way 99.9% of people drive WRX's) it could have caused issues.

05's have a sticker specifically saying 98 RON, so why has he been filling it up incorrectly?

Stay away. More than likely it has been pinging its little head off, especially in summer.

I saw a guy putting 91 RON in an XR6T the other day...made me cringe.

Anything turbocharged or with a high CR thats been run on a lower octane fuel than recommended, should be avoided....no exceptions (except maybe if he knocks about 6k off the price for a new, non-pinged short motor).

6k off thats a bloody good idea Joe. A V8+ JDM EJ207 would slot in nicely with a Verso tune.

Off topic as a very similar discussion came up the other day.

If running lower octane fuel than recommended, what problems occur? Will the ping sensor in the ECU do anything? And the age old question, how much ping is deadly?

This was in relation to a regular car (i.e. commo/falcon) but I guess the information would be the same here.
