Default toyota hybrid

Well this was mentioned in the current autosalon...

a hybrid between subaru and toyota.

and as my favourite car designers, im excited.

id like to see a light weight base model frame which would have been thoughtfully made with a bid of extra space under the hood and drive train areas.

for the inevitable STI engine upgrade...

Wasnt Toyota going to ressurect the the AE86 in a new car. Small lightweight affordable RWD car with a good chassis and a pissweak engine that has lots of tuning potential?

ive been keeping my ears to ground for this.

and there is always rumours floating about, but nothing ever really comes from it.

i think its similiar to the hot hatch wars. they are currently sellign well, so everyone wants a piece of the pie.

i hope the same happnes for the small/light rwd market.

werent toyotas rally wins in corolla chassis with the bigger celica engines?

I like the Red one, bit of a DC5 Integra shape to it.

Toyota and Subaru have joined forces to build a new sports car. Set to be launched in 2010, the future sports car will have different design for each auto maker, but both will feature the same Subaru boxer engine. The Subaru RWD Coupe will be priced at around $25.000 for the standard version, and $30.000 for the turbo version. The car will compete with cars like Mazda MX-5.

The car will be inspired by the classic rear-drive AE86 Toyota Corolla GT coupe from the 1980s. But, the Subaru version will also get its design by the Impreza, although it will shortened, lightened and will have a coupe body.

The 2010 RWD Coupe (we don’t know the name yet) will be powered by 2.0-liter flat four engine that will deliver 175bhp (for the naturally aspired version). Subaru will also unveil a 2.5-liter turbocharged version few months after the standard version.

Subaru will also give up the standard four-wheel drive system in order to save weight. Both companies will adopt the RWD system in order to make the car more compact, lightweight and faster.

The main market for the upcoming model will be North America, but will also be offered in Japan and Europe.

I don't see Oz mentioned in that last spiel (as usual,we probably won't be considered). I seem to remember a thread ages ago 'bout Subi & Toyota joining forces, inspiring names like Subota, Toybaru? Nice to see RWD anyways .....

I have read before that subaru were only ever going to focus on AWD vehicles, but with the more expansive (in terms of customer base) of its most recent vehicles I can see why subaru would further expand its range.

westoz: i think it would be better in the long term if either this suabru or the toyota is not released into the domestic market. We would more than likely get a lesser spec vehicle and the undoubtedly limited number released would keep the price of them higher.

Although we wouldn't want an 18 month wait. doing so would make cars much more accessible in the future.
