Just a few hints for your search in order of mods:

1) Silencer Removal.... its in the DIY section, just keep standard airbox and upgrade to a Silicon intake
2) Y-Pipe Upgrade under the intercooler
3) New Up-pipe into exhaust housing of the turbo....
4) Exhaust, Brands - X-Force, Hi-tech, MMS, RMS, Butler, Dylan Spec
5) VF34...direct fit but dump pipe important...read here:
http://www.msengineering.com.au/exhaustsystems.html

Local workshops can do the Splitter....
5) Verso reflash tune very good bang for the buck Proven results too.

You WILL need an ECU upgrade to see any gains on MY01+ WRX/STi's with mods.

As for problems with your car, it may be the Up-pipe, O2 sensor, or the Air Flow Meter.... See a workshop!!!
