'00 rims onto a '97... dont fit??

howdy, found out the other weekend ( thanks to skeptic ) that '00 rims dont fit onto my '97 wagon, the centre hub ( rim locator ) of the disc is heaps bigger on the 97? neither of us knew this and had the opinion that as they were both "classics" we'd be right!!..... obviously not!! :(

i figure that means i have to look for some standard 97 rims then

Strange. Ive never heard of anyone having problems fitting those wheels to a earlier WRX.

neither have i, coz ive seen 00 wheels go onto a 97 before, no probs whatsoever.

thats what we thought!!

i was thinking maybe someone has changed the brakes previous to me owning it, i haven't had to touch any of the brakes yet apart from checking the pads when we had the wheel off!!

i had 00 (and 02) rims on my 97 without any dramas :D

only thing that could be different with the earlier wheels is if you wagon has the 4pot brakes, hte 97 rims wouldn't fit on, but seeing as the my00 came with 4 pot brakes, i predict crack pipe

wannabe 10-10-2007 01:33 PM

no, no crack pipe for me :) plus i had a second opinion!!

my wagon only has two pots but the 00' has four! would that change things??

we both stood back in disbelief and tried again too, still didnt fit!!

really really odd. your car is a freak.

jEstEr? 10-10-2007 01:47 PM

did you see what was hitting ?
were you sticking them on backwards ?
did you see what was hitting ?
yeah, the centre hub part of the disc that helps locate the rim onto it, there was a good few mill difference between the rims/discs with mine being the bigger in diameter
were you sticking them on backwards ?
no, not on backwards although they may have fit better if we did!!

oh, we only did this with the drivers side wheel, took the one wheel off and as it didnt fit we didnt check any of the others!!
