Default 99 Sti at Osbourne Park Subaru

Hey fellow P-Wrx-ers,

I've driven past this car (White 99 Sti) about 20 times over the last 3 months, salesman said it's been sitting in the yard for 39 days, sales manager comes out and says it's been there for 55 days and he wants to sell it, hence the price drop from $35,990 to $34,990 to $33,990.

Has done 73,330kms and only serviced 5 times over it's 8-9yrs of life. Lowest they will sell it is $30k but is this a reasonable price for the yr and milage? A friend bought the exact same model last yr with 75,000km for $30k.

Also tested out the electric windows and they seem pretty slow/struggling. Does anyone else have this problem with their 99 Sti? is this a sign the motors are going or is this standard on all sti's?

You can get a 02 STi somewhere in the low $30K bracket. Much better buy. Brembos, 6 Speed, Ej207, etc......

for a car thats almost a decade old, sounds abit steep then again you are buying from a dealer. Pay that little extra and i'm sure you could get a bug eye sti. (as some of the guys on here can vouch for it) In regards to the electric windows i wouldn't have a clue i got a my 07 sti

Ok ill tell you a real gem of a trick. This is how i knocked about 3g off my car. Not only was my VL not worth the 3g they gave me trade in for it, maybe 1g at the most, i took the stereo out of it and had them fit it to my wrx.

It was Novermber the 29th 2006, i walked in and said im intrested, test drive please. He said it was fine, went for a test drive with a Subaru mechanic which just so happened to be a mate of a mate. Said it was great, low km's, good buy for 20-23g

I went back in stated what i wanted they said "no no no". Pretty much walked in the next day with 22g cash and a cruddy 87 vl commonwhore, said mate end of the month, wanna make a sale or not. Ill go else where ive got a few cars lined up. He crumbled did the "Ill have to speak to my boss" bullshit. The trick is....walk in at the end of the month with the cash in hand. The worst you will get is a no, but they want that car sale on the last day....oh so despretley!

ME!!!... i did that when i went in to buy my 99WRX, the dealer was asking for 24k, n i said i only have 21. we started talking and i kept on pushing him towards 20 and he kept on saying he'll go have a talk with the manager, came back and asked me how interested i am. told him i'm quite interested but not willing to pay much more than 20k. told him i have the cash n if he's happy i'll come in the next day and have a test drive, if all goes well 20k cash right on his desk. he said ok. next day came in with my uncle and test drive the car, n then 20k on his desk; sat there for a while counting money the two of us. you will knock the price down really good if you have the cash in hand, they will be certain to drop down the price a few ks.

Yeah that or a bank cheque, both make them almost bend over backwards.

Electric windows going up slowly, the fix is silicon spray. Get a can for $4 from any auto shop. Spray it on rubber seals on the door, where window comes up from. Wind up and down a few times and that will fix it.

As for 30K for 99 Sti... lot of money. You're looking at technology that is almost 10 years old.

10 years old but the specs say 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds. Still quicker than the current STi...
