Default Second Hand Turbo's ..

Heyas,

Looking at spending some more cashola, even though i shouldn't be .. And need some advise.

Been procrastinating for some time now - But am in the mood to bust out maybe a little over a grand for a turbo. What do you guys think about second hand turbo's?

We've seen one dude on hear have a second hand turbo die on the dyno, is this common or just bad luck? I am looking at a second hand VF34 which has done a little bit of motorsport (few hunds k's) and few thousand road k's.

I know this has been asked before, but i'm not really considering upgrading the 440cc injectors on the MY01 - Pushing them to 85-90% IDC should pull 180KW? Ultimately i'd like to drop in some STi injectors and MRT Fuel Rail for peace of mind which i would probably do at a later date.

So yes, this appears to be a VF34 + STi TMIC build.

Car already has Verso and all of the common mods, making 165KW at the mo.

My advice...save the bit extra and buy new, unless you're on a really tight budget and are willing to take a risk.

I wouldnt care how it was driven... ie motorsport etc, id look at two things -

1 - max boost run of the car it came off

2 - if the car had antilag etc..

if so, stay away.

Shop around for a new VF34 they can be sourced new for about 1K.

http://www.gruppe-s.com/Subaru/subeng.htm Gruppe S have them for USD$849=AUD$945~ I got quoted about USD$900 delivered early last year.

But I have bought two 2nd hand IHI VF series turbos before and had no problems.

Want to try and get one in AU to avoid all the import taxes.

$900USD will attract a tax correct?

No, because the goods value is USD$849 which is under AUD$1000.

I can vouch for gruppe-s as a first class bay area calif supplier, not the cheapest but great stocks. Check out their new warehouse http://www.gruppe-s.com/Contact/about_us.htm
