Default Service costs!

Hi guys

I need to get my car serviced - its coming out of warranty next month so want it done before then. The car is 3 years old (obviously) but has only done about 30k kms. I got quoted $850 for the 50k service by Subaru - is this the going rate? He seemed to think the major costs were to change the coolant and the gearbox oil? For $600 more???

Can anyone shed any light on whether i am getting ripped here - and i prefer to get it serviced at Subaru (despite the cost) rather than an independent garage before anyone recommends that.....just looking to see if this one dealer is trying to take me for a ride

Cheers!

No-one on here knows what anyone charges. Spend 10 minutes going through the list of garages and calling up for a quote. There's at least 5 to choose from, search!

50,000 is a fairly big service, much like the 100,000. The need to change the water pump, timing belts and whatnot is where the real cost is. $850 (from looking at others) sounds reasonable, but like John and Luca said, ring around and get a quote from all different places.

Subaru dealership prices will be pretty much identical since they all work to the same formula.
Of course I won't recommend a reputable workshop like MMS who do dealer servicing and have more product knowledge than a dealer's apprentice since they probably won't charge you enough!

I just had my 50K done by Jim Hall @ BLue Star. save heaps off dealer price, plus excellent service as everyone else will testify.
Improved my fuel economy too, I managed 613km from 51.5L on a country run with 3 passengers and car full of gear.

As above, i use race torque and my 50k service on my 04 was no where near that amount
