08 Sti Sports sharp question

On the 08 Sti I have been told you cant select sports sharp until the car warms up by a few people. My wife's new Liberty STI has a blue light on the dash which until the car warms up, you cant select sports sharp, when the light goes out you then can. The salesman mentioned its the same as my 08 STI.

Problem is I have no blue or any other light to signify when I can turn on the S# and it lets me select it with the key on or any time after I start it, hot or cold.

for those with an 08 STI can you please confirm:

1. you have a light that signifies when you can select S#

2. you cannot select sports sharp until the engine is warm if there isnt a light.

I assumed that it selects sports sharp but runs in the lower mode until it is warm, wasnt aware of the light etc.

Thanks

Graham

American Dave can confirm this for his Liberty STi. I have even seen it won't let you go into Sport Sharp til it has warmed up. Same system for the 08 STi

Thanks Phizzle (& Dave).

My wifes Liberty sti does this also but my 08 WRX STI doesnt so before I send it back to be looked at want to confirm other 08 Wrx Sti owners have the light and cant select, which I may be missing for some reason.

when I drove the R spec I am pretty sure it had the same blue light for sport + mode http://www.perth-wrx.com/vb/showthread.php?t=16882

well their you go spotty, that must be the definitive answer. 08 STI must have tougher internals than the Lib and no need to restrict sport + map before engine warms up?

Even if it is tough enough to use go hard mode straight up be nice to it till it reaches normal operating temperature. It only takes a km or two anyway so not like it is a huge imposition.

You will dramatically reduce the life of your engine if you rev the ring out of the thing as soon as you start it.

Might explain the love of oil the betty 257's have a thirst for :D

Thanks all

On further investigation it is only the Betty Sti that doesnt have the light etc, WRX and all other Si drive Scubies hav ethe light and the delay.

It drives in a reduced power mode till its warm but no light or delay in selecting the S# setting

Agree totally, five minutes at idle in driveway turns the blue light of for me in the morning, then it's sport +

Can't recall ever driving it in anything but sport + (16 litres/ 100Km) economy not!
