Drag times Vs Power
Hey guys,
Is there a rough guide for what quarter miles times you should/could run for a power to weight ratio? eg, 200 horsepower(atw) per tonne gives you 14 second quarters 400 horsepower gives you 11 second quarter....(just an example) Cheers, Steve. |
Yeah there are a few online calculators that can work it out. I'll see if I can find them.
Edit: Sites like: http://www.turbofast.com.au/Drag.html http://www.hardcore50.com/members/calculators.htm They only give a rough indication though (as there are so many factors in a time). I'm sure a google of 'drag calculator' will yield some more. |
as a rule, the more power you have, you should get a better time : )
This has been proven wrong though from time to time.....Something to do with the driver... |

Remember weight in pounds though....
I just got an ET of 8.8 seconds! |
LOL That's what I am doing wrong haha I got an ET of 9.1 haha. How much does your car weigh Brett?
11.89 now, It doesn't take into account the Joey factor though :) |
Good links Kato, thanks.
i was using words like quarter mile and kw and wasnt getting squat from google. so i should be pushing low 13s :) cheers guys, Steve |
what about gearing and ratios and such?
|

it's also at the wheel horsepower not flywheel horsepower...

Don't they also only calculate for rear wheel drives??
Are you guys adding in the weight of the driver as well? and what is the weight of an Pig STi? |
It is only a guide and can only be treated as such.
Lot's of things to take into consideration such as tyres, gear ratio's, temperature, launch etc etc etc. But I've found they are pretty close when you nail that good run. |
Well my guide is
3300 pounds for the car plus 170 pounds for the driver = 3470 pounds Power is 575 hp atw TS got so far is= 134 mph. Calculated TS: 128 mph ET: 10.6 So that must mean i have more hp... wohoo... |
WAW starts this Wednesday the 3rd September.
Go down and get a REAL 1/4 mile time. Then you can see how close the online calcs are. |
Who is up for going on wednesday? Maybe a meet first then all go down together?
|
