2009 wrx
Not sure if this is a repost, but came across (not literally) this article. So the implication is there will be 5 WRX models, the GT, WRX, WRX-S, STI and STI330s. Interesting. But then Prodrive cars don't usually make it over here do they?
2009 WRX Subaru knows that it’s going to have a real fight on its hands in the near future. Mitsubishi has been steadily turning up the wick with each new announcement and model release and it looks like Subaru is readying itself to return fire with the 2009 Impreza WRX. While exact details for the Australian release are unclear the hot tip is to keep an eye on the next Sydney Motor Show for more info. But why wait? There’s enough official news around to piece it together anyway. First, there was the rumoured leaked memo from Subaru North America outlining details for ‘09 offerings, including more power, upgraded suspension, aggressive visuals, and the addition of a slightly less powerful but more luxurious WRX - the GT - complete with automatic gearbox. Then, at this year’s London Motor Show, Subaru displayed two new models, already confirmed for production - the 190kW WRX-S and the 243kW WRX STI 330S. Both vehicles had received treatment from Prodrive and featured enhanced ECU’s, free-flowing exhausts, revised styling, and upgraded suspension. Now we have an official press release from Subaru North America confirming details from the earlier leaked memo, removing any shadow of a doubt that the 2009 Impreza WRX will most certainly boast the aforementioned extras, and I can’t see why Australia would miss out on any of the fruit. It was obvious that Subaru needed to make an effort with the ‘09 WRX but whether this effort will be enough to fend off Mitsubishi’s rising challenge remains to be seen. Either way, it’s good news for us and I can’t wait for the next round of head to head road tests. |

There is no 330S, GT or WRX-S in Australia.
Our models for 2009 are: WRX sedan WRX hatch STi hatch STi Spec-R hatch. Premium Pack is now available on WRX, which includes leather and sunroof. We've just ordered our MY09 WRX Hatch Premium pack, to replace the wife's Mazda3. It should arrive around Feb 09 It has been CONFIRMED by the dealer that we are getting tweaks for 2009...including power and suspension, but they wouldn't say how much, or the extent of any other tweaks that may be occurring. Either way, I was happy to buy one at its current specification, but now that its nearing the end of the year, I thought it worthwhile to wait for the 09 model (not to mention they had no stock of white MY08s left in WA!). WRX-S and STI 330 will be UK only models, to compete with the Evo FQ range. The UK has had a few limted models from the factory like that in the past.
GT will be the 'lower' WRX with the power output of the 08 model.

It must be a Subaru Japan directive if the power stays the same. I'd imagine Subaru Aus would be pulling all stops to make sure their car out powers the Ralliart. |
