Air filters on MY00
hi guys,
im tossing up if i should get a air filter pod for my MY00 WRX, iv been told by a subaru mechanic they cos too many probs with the sensor's on the car, is this true or false? im lookin at a apexi one at the moment brand new $150 straight bolt-on fit |
They cause problems when it's an oiled filter like a K&N. The problem arises when the oil makes it through the filter and f*#cks up the air flow meter. That said however, I used a K&N oiled filter for at least 2 years without any problems with the AFM.
An A'PEXi one is a dry type, shouldn't cause any problems. Personally I think the stock airbox does an equally good job, just have to remove the intake resonator and chuck a CAI in the guard instead. |
scoobysix is right (its the oil that does the damage) apexi should be ok.
i run a k&n but would have prefered a blitz. the only difference you will notice between an air filter pod & a decent highflow pannel filter is .....that you get a better induction roar & can hear the standard dumpvalve through it. ptshhhhhhhhh. lol |
Removing the intake resonator will do the same too, ie. lets you hear the induction noise and pshhhhh. Hence I'm not a big fan of spending $100-200 for a pod filter if you can keep the standard airbox. Some haven't got a choice, ie. custom mounted turbo, inlet pipe, I/C piping, etc etc but if I can keep the standard airbox, I would. Looks factory as well, which is always good when cops pull you over for a look-see.

apexi air filter are good im using one. pm sent slikwrx

stick with the factory airbox. Pod filter does a great job of sucking in hot air. As mentioned 'over' oiled filters can cause havoc with the afm.
OT: please dont 'sell' products on the information threads....keep it to w/shop or PM only. |
I'll sell you some piping from bunnings that you can just wak on ya AFM to go into ya guard :D
|
thanks guys, i think i may just leave the air box stock, as it seem the improvment isnt that much better & isnt so bad when cops pull you over :)

Its located in your drivers side front mud gaurd in the wheel arch, you have to remove your tyre and the mud gaurd to take it out, its well worth doing this easy mod.
