FMIC and Retune Today

Had a Process West FMIC installed last week and a Verso re-tune done, who said FMIC's are laggy.

The darker lines are the tune with the FMIC, more torque, power is limited as the turbo is at it's threshold.....

One issue fixed is the car with an oversize CAI was running way too rich, the smaller (closer to standard) size CAI made tuning alot easier for Sean.

Cool - So full boost around 4000? You're running a big turbo yeah .. Tempts me to go FMIC as well, don't think i need to however for a 34. Good TMIC setup should suffice, unsure as if i'd see any gains, as i run STi TMIC, auto-waterspray etc.

I'm looking forward to getting my car back on the dyno again to make sure all is running alright. How does your car fair for a daily driver? I almost enjoy having a bit more lag than the TD04 as you can drive around much more sedately out of boost, where the TD04 always wants to get up and go due to the smaller exhause housing.

Run I.D also says new clutch - did it contribute to impressive result?

Good Point, may have helped the torque figure, Sean said old clutch was slipping right at the peak of power/torque!!

all done at 4000 sweet! Must pull pretty farkin hard now! New clutch is always going to be required sooner or later. My stocker clutch wasn't holding at the top of 5th gear run according Sean. What clutch did you get?

type25 13-01-2009 02:12 PM

congrats gav, you must be stoked with that

I got it 2nd hand off Oversteer, is a Exedy Sports Tuff from memory, running a extreme clutch plate, 2800 pounds of clamp. It is a big improvement on the standard STI clutch, pedal feel is heavier but it grips great and no slip!!

great to hear thanks for the feedback as this my next mechanical mod I suspect.

Well its always going to show its weakness when under most load.

Lunchtime spin sometime soon? :D

Great result Gav!

You better let someone give this thing a run at the drags this season! Stop being a pussy! :p

Nice one, glad you went the FMIC option, I remember we were talking about it a while back, lag shmag! : ) You drive around it : )

How much boost are you running? hows your fuelling? I think theres potential for a 400hp/600Nm car there. : )

edit, I just remembered that brett (evlwrx) has about 400hp/600Nm at the hubs but thats with a 3037...so maybe you are close to the potential of the 2835...

Still, Im guessing you would be running about 1.5Bar...1.8 could change things a bit.. :D

Good result Gav.
I can't see how the dyno will show you how laggy the set up is though.
Getting full boost at 4000 r/min isn't the measure of lag.
It's how long it takes to go from vacuum to boost when you're already above 4000.
You could have 15 metres of intercooler pipe and it'd still reach full boost at 4000.

RUSSGT 14-01-2009 08:35 AM

^^Good point that! Never thought of it like that before.

207 de 14-01-2009 08:52 AM

ah the old "boost threshold" and "lag" definitions..: )

Its true, boost threshold = rpms where full boost is reached...Lag = time between WOT and target boost reached when rpms are above boost threshold.

happy to be corrected if Im off the mark...

Well put Doug...
it is good to see someone knows what they are talking about.
