AHG Tuning Arvos

I got out on one of those AHG tuning arvos today, great value for money as we got both the skid pan and the long track to use. Personally found the skid pan more fun as the stock suspension is just understeer city and no fun on the long track.

I don't think the car was having as much fun as I was. It was reading oil temps of 110 plus after a few runs, so had to give it a rest every now and again. Oh and I got boost cut a few times. :( ........ AVO450S in the garage should fix that hopefully. I read the peak value on the defi gauge and it was 1.7 Bar. I'm sure that still reads a little high though. At the end of the day the car had had enough and half blew the intercooler hose of the turbo. Sounded just like an air horn when it was coming off. Easily fixed though.

But yeah, well worth the $60 bucks!!! :D

I love the AHG days.

Need to do more of them more often.

Standard turbo + good exhaust = uncontrollable boost.

AVO450s will fix the problem very well and you will be much happier with the car.

Same issue. Same solution. One very happy BlackSTi :D :D :D

Got a tune in her Jungleboy since fitting the exhaust?

I never have problems with boost cut on the street, just at the track it seems. Yeah I probably won't install the turbo till the next service, which is about June. Might get the injectors decapped at the same time, every time I rev it out I think about how the injectors are at 90%+ duty cycle.

Also around the end of the day I was getting fuel surge on right turns, had just under 1/4 of a tank left. I will have to put more in next time.

Next on the list is the swaybars/antilift kit sitting there in the garage, then it's back to AHG for some more fun. Nothing better than spinning and going backwards with your foot flat in second and the smoke passing the windows, LOL.

I'm not really sure what the new turbo will be like or how much power it will make, hopefully won't loose too much down low drivability.

Don't waste your time with the injectors. Am running AVO450s and have not changed or de capped mine. Car has been reliable ( Touch wood ) for 30,000km with this set up.

If they weren't keeping up the hypercrap pistons would have given out long ago.

Think it is hyperflow do a in tank anti surge pickup jobbie similar to the STI one but much cheeper. Seems to be a good thing so far but doesn't hurt to take a jerry and not let it get to low unless you get to the point you are chasing the last tenth.

Only time you will really notice lag with the new turbo is if you are silly enough to pull out at 80 in 6th gear to overtake. Keep it between 3500 & 6000 like you should when hustling anyway and you will never be disappointed.

Can't be to bad. I carry 5th at 60 with the current mods. Couldn't do it stock.

That doesn't sound too bad. Only really ever use 6th from 80 onwards when cruising but changing down to accellerate is fine.

I was looking at getting the hyperflow anti-surge box, but I'll probably just put more fuel in the tank for now.

If you car is not tuned, slipping a different turbo on won't stop boost cut (that's an issue with your tune).

No need for surge tanks and stuff if you are only going to play. Just put a full tank in when you start.

Nah I got it tuned at ASG a while ago. But yeah will definately go with a full tank next time.

If it's not tuned Kato that is another issue but a GOOD exhaust such as the butler I had on the stock VF43 and a 2.5 cannot get enough air out the waste gate to properly control boost.

We proved it with mine by disconnecting the waste gate and holding it fully open. Still managed to make it to boost cut.

Subaru's dodgy dump pipe design is what makes it possible to control the boost level with the stock turbo. Once that is replaced you will have issues regardless of tune.
