No keys.
The keys to my girlfriends WRX have been pinched.
Using the VIN number and whatnot, can you get a new key from Subaru? |
Yes, just give them your vin and they can send away to get the key cut number and security code
the car will still have to be bought to a dealer if it has an immobilizer in the key though |
Don't think it did. It's just a 98 GC, do they have built in immobilser's like Commodores?
|
My 99 GC does and pretty sure 98s do too
check at the base of the head, where they key comes out, if there's a little box there it has an immobilizer what suburb are you in?? |
lol, can't check the key as its gone =)
But i see what you're talking about on my 00 key. I don't think hers had that as its kinda noticeable. I'm in Canning Vale. |
late 97 was the first of the transponders in the key. 98 definately has it.
|
budget on getting all the locks recalibrated as well mate, what ever the cost it'll be worth it.
|
Bend over, keys are normally ridiculously expensive too.
|
With the original key to work off, I paid around $350 to have a spare cut for my MY00 at Subaru Wangara
|
Claim it on insurance if it is going to be a ridiculous price, might also be worth giving Diamond locks in Ozzy Pk a call before you pay Subaru a fortune as their keys with transponders etc are about a quarter the price, you can also take the ignition, door and boot locks out yourself and they will re calibrate the pins to match any key you have made for about $25 ea.
Might also be worth getting an auto sparky to bypass the transponder and just take a door lock to Diamond or someone similar, they should be able to make a key from the position of the pins in the lock that will operate everything apart from the transponder. I have a spare 98 key with remote on it but I'm in China so bad luck there. |
