Written off 05 STi

hey guys,

My 05 STi was written off by the hail storm so now i've got some decisions to make.

Was on hackett drive driving out of UWA as it happened. Got hit pretty hard.

Anyway the car is mechanically perfect with 50,000k on the clock and 20k has gone into it in parts so far.

Just trying to decide what to do atm, the options are:

1. Take insurance money

1a. Buy another 05 STi
1b. Buy a 2003 M3

2. Buy back car from insurance
2a. Part out the car
2b. Turn it into a race car
2c. Go widebody (WRC most likely) since every panel needs to be replaced anyway

Thoughts, opinions?

cheers

Jason

Buy it back and do a widebody....

Thats what i would have done if my car was hit.. I missed it by 30mins. Very lucky but unlucky at the same time.. ahha

really depends on the $$s the insurance company are talking about and if you want a project or just a replacement car.

if your the "I need a project type" then all your 2. options would be great (good shed would also be good)

If you more the "I enjoy the drive type" then definitely go for option 1a.

So basically I haven't answered your question............

Depends on how much you will be getting back from the insurance
co.

Once this is know then you can look properly at a wide array of options.

Has the car been taken from you already? and do you have the time/original parts to rip your goodies out of it before you turn it in?

I will be getting 35k for the car, not sure as yet how much to buy back... but once i get told will have to act pretty quickly id assume

Safe to say i will have atleast 20k (inclusive of personal funds) to spend if i do buy it back

car hasnt been taken, so i do have time to rip most of the stuff out

I do have another car, so whether its on the road in 2 weeks or 2 months doesnt really matter

If you have about 20k, i'd spend $15k looking for a doner shell and body, and transfer things across in your own time. Be cheaper if you can do most of the work yourself!

Re-shelling a car for a bit of hail damage is extreme. Replace the bonnet and boot, repair the rest and paint the car, won't cost as much as a reshell and the end result will be better. A decent panel beater will repair (without bog) hail damage easily.
