Need some advice
 

Hey guys...

I'm looking at purchasing a 02 STI pretty soon.
the car i am currently looking at has a full service history - 145,xxx on the clock and looks & drives really nice.

im just curious as to whether a RAC check/inspection in really worth it?
i know where the car has been serviced so i was planning on callin them & double checking what the owner told me - ie hasnt missed a service etc.

from what i can tell although it seems like "high" kms , for its age - looks to be in really good condition.

They are always handy but most of the stuff they check you can check yourself ie pads, disc thikness and so on.
They will not be able to tell you if it has missed a service. The klms on it are average (the average is 20k per year) I have an 02 Sti that has done 107xxx.

agreed, the RAC check doesn't really cover anything that could be seriously wrong with a car, i know of a lot of people that have paid for the RAC checks and within weeks had serious problems with the car, best option is to look at the service history and call the workshop where it was serviced and ask them about the cars condition in their opinion, they'll be able to tell you everything about the car, and how it was treated

If you plan on getting it checked out you are better off getting one of the specialist workshops to do it,( eg:STechnic,MMS,RMS etc) as they would have a better understanding of what areas that need to be checked for that particular vehicle and that mileage. They can't tell you if it's missed a service, but they can tell if it's been well looked after or "prettied up" for a sale, & what work may be required in the near future.

RAC checks arnt worth Shite.. IMO.:p

RAC don't do checks any more Dave. I'd get ASG to check it out. The dealer in mandurah I bought my sti from let me take it for half a day to malaga to get checked out. I was adament I wouldn't buy the car otherwise. 145km is a tad high, but if it's fairly stock with FSH then it might be ok!
