Bit of overkill on servicing an RX ever 5,000kms IMO, however at least
you know it's been serviced regularly! which is always a good thing you
want to see when buying a car.

Didn't most of them not recommend purchase of the car anyway, to minimise liability etc?

What price would you then expect to see a Dec 2001 Bugeye with say 108k km's on it which has had the timing belt, waterpump, and pulleys already replaced on it, advertised for (please note the car may or may not be black :P)
7k sounds reasonabe for a well looked after 00 RX with books, get Doug to have a look and go for it, you won't lose much over a year if you look after it.

I had mine for sale for ages, white mid 01 Bug 100k on the clock, less than 1k on a re-built forged MMS motor, re-conned box -500kl, STI headlights & grille, really nice 18" wheels, never pranged & pretty much perfect inside and out.
I got sick of the sight of it sitting around and offloaded it to a mate for 16g about 6 months ago.

As has been said already, if it has been looked after, I see no worries about getting another 150 - 200k out of it. If it is the one Doug mentions, get him to inspect it. Also Jim Hall will come out to do an inspection.

High kms no biggie, but 9k? And just remember if you only plan on keeping it a few years intending to sell it you'll be trying to off load a car with 300'000kms on it. Just get a cheap Corolla for 1500 till you have enough to buy a decent performance car.

^^I agree, dont buy another car you will already want to sell in the not too distant future. Stick with the falcoon until you get out of uni. Waste of money.

Or save some extra and get a WRX, heaps of good lightly modded ones come up all the time for good money.
Be patient or it will cost you more in the long run.

Ill wait and see how much money i can save up over the mid-year break. Got about 6 weeks of full time work coming up - might be close to a Gen1 WRX by then.

Thanks Guys =)

Hey mate, you wouldn't happen to be looking at a blue RX would you? From rangeview auto's?

I would suggest you not buy it, it was in pretty rough nick when I had a look at it before they "prettied" it up. I unfortunately bought my car from there (an RX as well, but only 127km) and paid a premium for it (I needed a car quick).

It looked like it was in very good condition when I bought it, but slowly I've noticed areas where they have just done a cheap rush job to make it look good, and those areas have now started to come apart. I've had the car for ~ 3-4 months and already I have to replace a throwout bearing & maybe the clutch as well. They also seem to have basically no idea about cars...

I would stay away and buy one privately if you can. Not only will you pay much less, it's less likely to be in shit condition.

edit:

oh an 9k is a huge ripoff.

yeah mate, I'll be selling this in about a year once I have saved up for a WRX myself. I'll be looking for a stock one though, so I doubt I will be able to get one around here
