^^ Whs.

Drag car would be consistent and win with a 4EAT. Also you can hook it up for RWD burnouts to help at the drags.

Plus it says EAT.

If you want to fix the car on the cheap, Doug has a mint 4.444 5 speed at his workshop for $1,500 plus installation and diff change to suit.

If you want the ultimate, go the 6 speed.. but budget 3-4 times the above amount depending on what combo of diffs you go for.

i think it may be an idea to understand / learn the limits of the car's handling and see what you need in terms of diffs. You can upgrade front, centre and rear diffs, but they are not same same in terms of effects to the handling and performance

would the 6MT be able to be put straight in a my06 wrx wagon with the stock diffs? and then have the tuning redone with a piggyback ecu???

I went to Northside Transmission Centre in Wangara (08) 9309 3642 for a replacement gearbox and a few other bits and pieces and found their prices very reasonable. Its certainly not a flash workshop pumping out high end jobs daily, but they're no bulshit service and they definately have the gear to supply 6speed, with or without straight cut gear sets. They give the option to have only the first few straight cut and the rest helical so you dont have that whining at cruise speed.

You don't have to retune when you change the gearbox.

The diff's wont be suitable, you need to change to 3.9 ratio for a 6 speed. You have 4.444's.

You can either swap it out for an entire R180, or as your car may already have an R180 in it with the "hybrid" axles to suit the R160 shafts (late WRX's got these, it may be 06 onwards but possibly 07).. you could just put a crown wheel and pinion in it.

Because his WRX is a my06 he has 3.7 rear diff and R160 rear diff. Only the my07+ has 4.44 and R180 with hybrid shafts.

All the 6 speed gear is bolt on. Theres no customisation of anything required. 3.9 or 3.54 diffs are bolt on too. Also, I'd recommend putting in a Plated LSD in there while you are at it.
