Default 5w30 or 10w40

before i get flamed i did try and search here and Google, but can't find enough specific answers and getting nowhere... Manuel says 5w30, but from my findings, 10w for a higher mileage car

1998 wrx
used as daily, basic mild mods, driven moderately.
175000 km on the clock

for my budget, deciding between two oils and will get one based on opinions best suited for me...

5w30 Castrol Edge fully synthetic ($50)
10w40 Nulon fully synthetic ($60)

so is 5w30 fine as that's what Ive always used or change to 10w40?

thank you

since the car is getting old..MAYBE burns and leaks oil in some places..ill go fully syn either 10w or 15w

5w is what youll put in a car thats done less then 100,000km

After lots of research I ended up putting Mobil Super 2000 10w40 in mine (MY99, 97000k)

Why would you want to make the winter rating higher on an older motor? Just means the viscosity is higher when cold. Personally I'd want the lowest winter rating you can get + whatever the owners manual says.

Personally, Mobil fully SYN 5W-30 unless 5W-50 is on sale.

Unlike Rossco - no drums of it at my work.

FTMFW!....... I can't get it through Nissan though unfortunately....I miss Chellingworth in that respect.....Liquid gold on tap.

@ around $60-70 I still reckon it is well worth it, Fast flow cold & I get 650-700 kpa (95 - 100psi) hot or cold above 1100 rpm.. Hot hot idle is 250 ~ish kpa (32-35 psi)
