Replacement parts - Costs and alternatives
Hey everyone,
I contacted my local Subaru dealer today to get some prices for replacement items on my WRP10. The prices i got back were a little suprising: Replacement Steering Wheel - $1500 from Japan Replacement Gear Knob - $185 from Japan Gear knob surround (plastic panel) $45 from Eastern States Up until this point, i have preffered spending money keeping the car absolutely 100% standard and all genuine parts etc. But with a steering wheel being $1500 i'm wondering if i might be better off going after market. I want to keep the car looking neat so don't want anything that stands out too much.. Can anyone suggest a good replacement wheel & gearknob combo? Not going for a Rally look, want it to look factory. Suggestions would be great, thanks. |

Have you tried any wreckers like JWS?
Arai motorsports does a swede steering wheel for the GD series was about 1k last time I checked.

welcome to the world of dealerships, they are all rip offs.

Zerosports and Syms also do replacements, well under $1k. Alternatively, a good condition replacement from JWS won't be $1,500 either. |

Best start paying particular attention to the for sale threads, items being sold off in the quokka, or other sites/forums where parts are being sold within Australia and/or by Australians. There are bargains out there and a dealership isn't always the first option

what's wrong with the steering wheel? some trimmers can repair/recover the original wheel.
*** actually, re-reading your intro thread you said you've already had them reconditioned.... *** Last edited by ITGRIPS; 29-11-2010 at 05:12 PM. Reason: re-read intro thread |

Steering wheel price probably includes air bag and sensors too.
I wouldn't be playing around with it unless you are sure what you are doing (cheap wheel + backyard mechanics = airbags deployed and a big bill). Also, don't remove the airbag wheel on your daily driver.
