GT Worx / Bilstein Suspension for 08+WRX
For anyone interested, I have just had these installed on my hatch.
GTWorx /Bilstein Shock & RCE yellow spring combo. 320# spring rate and very decent valving. 19mm drop. Refer to Nasioc thread (all 3,648 posts) for background info. Early days, but very positive so far. A little bit bouncy on rough roads, but the car now does what you tell it to do with the wheel. If anyone is interested I will post up some feedback once I have some ks on them.

Interesting...
Why did you go for this setup over coilovers or just lowering springs on the stock struts? What pricetag does it come with?

There is a 150 page thread with reasons why to get these over just lowering springs or coilovers on Nasioc. The shortened condensed version is that I don't want an overly harsh ride, so in terms of coilovers that leaves: KW, Ohlins, Bilstein, RCE Tarmac 2s etc i.e $3.5k+, and as this is more a street ride I don't see the point in spending that much.
As you need an alignment when changing heights, I don't see the point in height adjustability for me either. This car won't see much if any track time, it is a hard driven daily driver. Also, the 08+ has such limited travel that you can't really lower beyond 20mm without seriously hard springs and valving unless you are ok with reduced handling capability. I am not after a slammed car, but I want to improve on the shitty stock body roll and looseness. These were $2k ( less if buying direct from US), which is very expensive. However, I have had nothing but good experiences with Bilstein, and these were extensively R&D'd for 08+ WRXs. RCE/GTWorx organised a custom job with Bilstein which I also respect. The worst thing I could have done is put 35mm lowering springs on the std shocks. Most people that have done that have got about 5,000km before destruction. Not to mention terrible handling. Also, 99.9% of springs on the market have been made for the 08 spec, which is about 25% lower spring rate than 09+, so there is only a tiny increase in spring rate. King Springs are a perfect example of this.

Yeah anything more than 20mm on the standard shocks is asking for trouble.
It would be interesting how this setup compares to something like HSD, Tein, Cusco coilovers for around the $2k mark.

On the street I would imagine the shock/spring combo would be much nicer.
The autox guys in the US love these , but maybe not low/hard enough springs for racing.... I won't be having to rebuild thiese nearly as often at least...

So far so good. The car is so much flatter through turns, and I have 100% more confidence in turning at speed. The twisty ramp off the freeway in the city heading to Riverside Dve was a good test. No floatiness or twitching at all.
Excellent control, roll all but gone and it has tightened up the steering feel even further over the steering rackbushes. The ride is is a little rougher, but obviously roads here are better than some of the American cities as I certainly wouldn't complain about it.

Also gives me food for thought...was going h & r springs because of $$$ but now am considering just biting the bullet and going hsd's next year. This is handy info, thanks for sharing PS: How did you find the steering after the steer rack bushes (will be getting some soon and would love some feeback from a wrx owner). |

xsv4rce: They make a difference, worth it IMO. The suspension seems to have doubled the effect though. Very firm and much more accurate steering now. I am not qualified to explain why, it just feels that way.
iMPREZUH: The sway bars, ALK and bushes went on at the same time with a more aggressive alignment, this killed understeer. (as far as I have been able to tell without tracking it) The new setup works very well with the Whiteline gear though. I feel much more confident pushing the car. With the original setup the car was sloppy and unpredicatble over bumps and on rough corners.
