Talking Pearls on goo-net from Japan

Hey folks,

Just a general question, has anyone imported a vehicle found on exchange.goo-net.com? Someone on the forum linked it the other day and i have been having a look through ever since... some really interesting vehicles in there including an S202, an RA Spec C etc etc.. here's just 1 i saw:

http://exchange.goo-net.com/usedcars...101219005.html

What do you think you would end up paying on top of these prices for landing fee's and duties etc?

Thanks,

If your getting it for race rally just get a spec c as they're cheaper and you'll prob strip the interior of the premium models to make it lighter so its a waste anyway.

If you want it for road use its not going to happen as you CAN NOT IMPORT ANY SUBARU FOR ROAD USAGE unless you live overseas and own the car there for a full 12mths minimum.

The only other way is to cut it in half and bring it in as parts and then transfer all the stuff to an Oz legal shell but then and always it will only be a conversion and never the real deal.

If it was easy and possible to legally bring one in for road usage then everyone would have spec 's rar-'s and S series cars!

Thanks JDM :-) I have no idea on the import laws here as only been in the country for 3 years myself.

It's a shame its so hard, don't really understand why the laws are so stringent.

first things first, why does that sti not have sti headlights? secondly, that roof scoop is ugly as fuck, and thirdly, the laws are strict to protect the Australian Domestic Market. It's cheaper to buy a car overseas and send it over. If it was easy to bring in anything you wanted, everyone would be doing it.

I was about to say that the system works fine in England, but then I remembered that every major English car producer has been sold to foreign companies and generally closed their English factories.

Maybe it doesn't work so well after all

On the issue of it being cheaper, yeah it is... but to be honest everything in Australia is rather expensive, the taxes etc here are pretty hard core.

Spec C's have the standard headlights, as they're usually swapped out for the Prodrive ones.. same reason the Gravel Spec C's have steel wheels.

IMHO that is far too dear. With all the crap it will end up costing you so close to $30k by the time you got it here the change might buy you lunch at maccas.

If you want it solely for track / rally duties then you can buy a brand new spec C for less than $50k.

Didn't MY01 (V7) STi's had WRX headlights until MY02 (V8) which was when we first saw GD STi's in Aust?
MY01 STi's never came to Australia except for the ones that SRTA rallied back in the early part of this decade.

Price-wise...agree Brendon...in fact I thought most of the prices were a little steep compared to 12 months ago...
