Default Pits roll cage experience

I went to the pits today but couldn't pass due to needing approval of the rollcage I have in the back of my GC8. Its a bonds 4 point bolt in one. This is what the examiner wrote about it.

"Tech section approval required for removal of rear seats, seatbelts and fitment of full roll cage (even though its half, fucking idiot)"

Has anyone had any experience with this situation trying to get it road registered. Any advice at all will help. Would rather keep it in than having to fit all the interior back in. Was hoping to get it registered as a two seater. Im going to RMS to get a structal report on the cage in hoping it helps with approval.

Cheers

Shouldnt be an issue if its an approved cage - it will be re-regoed as a 2 seater.

from memory all u need to do it take it to tech @ welshpool, and it will be reg'd as a two seater, so long as u have the right padding in the rights spots, shouldnt need a structural report (did it with my S13 years ago.)

Ah is tech only at welshpool? The reason Im confused is because DPI told me the examiner had the power to approve it. Didnt even know of this tech shiz. Damn welshpool is far from osborne park. Also what parts do you need padding as I have none.

Go to clark rubber and buy the dense foam rubber padding. Cut it up yourself to suit and use cable ties to hold it onto the cage.

Cover as much of the cage as possible? Or are there only certain points that need to be wrapped?

Anwhere your head might come in contact with it during a crash. But there's no harm in wrapping the whole cage to help get you over the pits.

Talking

I just got mine passed by the pit guys in Midland about 2 weeks ago.

The inspector you are dealing with in Osborne Park has no idea. From memory, VSB14 is the document you need. It deals with removal of seating and occupant protection.

My cage is a Bond bolt in, presented as a 4 point, but now is six point with door bars.

I paid my rego renewal on the same day (since it was due) and I don't think it is a 2 seater. You should get a hand-written modification permit that lists the approved mods and any special conditions that may apply. Remove all rear seatbelts and fill the holes. I used the old bolts, but you can also use grommets or whatever, even cover them with a bit of race tape is ok.

PM me if you need any specific info.

The biggest thing to help it pass is be friendly - even if you don't like the guy. Just don't let him know you true intention.

I'm now waiting to get my car log-booked by CAMS. It's still full A reg and can be used daily. All legal and above board.

4 point half cage is possible. 6 point with side intruion isnt. So if you have your full cage in and get pulled by a cop who has a clue (not much chance of that) you could have issues. I have been lucky to date with a full weld in cro mo in mine. But it isnt a daily so that helps.
